The Dark Side Of The Light

Chapter Three

Rey's POV

I sighed, relieved that I was partners with Ben, although I hardly knew him, he was the only person who had even spoken to me yet. I glanced up at the boy beside me.

"So, I guess we're partners for this thing." I said, not quite as nervous as I had been earlier, but still a bit nervous.

"Yeah, I guess we are." He replied with a slight smile, glancing over at me. His eyes were a dark shade of brown, like copper against honey. I looked away quickly, glancing down at the cold greyish stone floor.

"So, where are you from, Rey?" Ben asked.

"Um, I'm from Coruscant," I replied shyly, still not meeting his eyes again.

"Oh, really? From what I've heard Coruscant's a pretty busy place," Ben states.

"Yeah, it is really busy," I replied quietly as Luke returned to the front of the room.

"Is everybody ready to begin training?" Master Luke asked the class, everyone nodded and said "Yes, Master Luke," in unison.

He nodded. "Alright, everybody come to the front of the room and pick out the lightsaber that calls out to you." He said, moving slightly to the side, revealing a large table that had lightsabers laying on it.

Everybody stood up and walked towards the table and began to choose their own sabers. I stood near the back of the crowd, too nervous to really ask anybody to move. After a minute or two though, enough people had cleared away from the table to allow me to sneak through the crowd to the table. I saw a saber with a dark grey, almost black hilt, and picked it up, knowing that that was my saber. I step away from the table once I had my saber in hand.

Ben's POV

I watched as Rey picked out a saber with a darker colored hilt as I stood at the table, trying to figure out which one was right for me. Finally, I decided on a saber with a brighter, silvery hilt and walked back to where Rey and I had been sitting. She was already there, looking at the hilt of her saber. She looked up as I once again took a seat beside her.

I tried to think of something to say to the girl who had been sitting beside me, but came up with nothing. I didn't know what it was, but something about her was different from every one else at the academy that I had met, and I had met pretty much everyone after already having been coming to the academy for almost three years.
