Rey's POV
I cried out in pain quietly as he picked me up, burying my face in the fabric of his shirt. I heard the elevator doors close behind us."I love you," I say to him quietly, knowing that this was probably the last time I'd say it to him.
"I love you so much, Rey," he replied quietly.
I looked back up at him, my vision was blurry and I could barely make out his features, then everything went black.
Ben's POV
I watched as her eyes fluttered closed, and the elevator doors opened. I ran as fast as I could with her in my arms to the ship, praying I'd make it back to the resistance in time for them to save Rey's life. Her presence in the force was faint and weak and I knew I was slowly losing her.Once we were inside the ship I lay her down gently on the single bed in the smaller ship. Before rushing to the cockpit. I flipped a few switches and started the ship, immediately setting the coordinates for the resistance base and putting it in autopilot as we entered lightspeed. I walked towards the bed and sat down on the edge of it, slowly rolling up her shirt so I could see how bad the injury was.
Unsurprisingly, it was pretty bad, blood was still flowing from the wound and she was losing a lot of blood. I stood up and grabbed the medical kit, grabbing a bandage from the kit and carefully wrapping it around the wound on her stomach, hoping that it would stop the bleeding somewhat. I stay by her side until something beeped, alerting me that we were landing. I felt the impact of the landing and stood up, picking Rey up once again and walking down the ramp of the ship and immediately heading to the med bay. My mother followed us, bombarding me with questions that I wasn't paying attention to, the only thing I cared about in that moment was Rey. I made it to the med bay and handed Rey over to one of the doctors, who had seen us come in.
The doctor took Rey away into one of the private medical rooms and I sit down in one of the chairs in the waiting room. My mother sat down beside me.
"What happened?" She asked, glancing at me.
"The mission was a fail, the Supreme Leader is still alive," I replied, not really wanting to go in depth with the explanation.
"I meant, what happened to Rey?" She rephrased her question.
"She offered her life for my safety, I was forced into the elevator, she was ordered to be killed and I was too late," I replied quietly as a wave of guilt crashed over me.
This was my fault, if I had been faster, Rey wouldn't be dying.
Leia nodded. "You should get some rest," she suggested.
I shook my head. "No, I'm not leaving until I know if she's okay," I replied stubbornly.
Leia sighed. "Okay, well, I have to go tell Han that the mission was unsuccessful." She said, standing up and leaving the room.
The room was empty other than me and a nurse, and the overwhelming feeling of guilt. I felt a tear roll down my cheek and wiped it away. I'd broken my promise again.
