second ending to "hush".
(y/n) was quiet as they kissed. she broke the moment and looked back up the stairs. whoever it was going down there had decided not to and walked back up to the first floor. daniel sighed in relief and resumed cutting the rope in the dark. (y/n) winced as the blade of the knife broke her skin into a small cut. it was small, but big enough for it to bleed.
daniel looked at (y/n), looking up at him. she knew it. she knew she was dead. it was over for her. she felt the blood drop onto the concrete floor. she silently sobbed as she looked down at her wrist.
daniel's eyes were wide as he looked at the knife in his hands. it had her blood smeared across the blade. he felt a tear fall as he looked hopelessly down to his best friend. the girl he loved since the first time he saw her.
the creatures could smell blood. the creatures that were killing everybody. they killed them, took their bodies, and continued to kill others. their sense of smell was stronger than any other animal known. when they smelled blood, they would kill. but they were blind. they depended on their sense of smell to help them survive.
it was almost like an instinct. daniel quickly dragged the blade across his skin, watching the blood slowly leave his body.
"daniel," she said. she sobbed silently as daniel set the knife on the floor. he wrapped his arms around her and held her figure against his.
"shh," he said. "it's okay."
daniel sniffed into her hair as she continued crying into his shoulder. they knew it. this was the end for them. daniel had the idea of finding out more about these creatures. (y/n) had gotten stuck in the basement and kidnapped. daniel thought he could save her and they would survive. but as the blood dripped from both of their wrists and multiple footsteps rushed down the basement stairs, the two friends continued to hold each other, crying into one another's shoulder.
"it's okay," daniel repeated.
they held onto each other tighter than they had ever held onto anything else before. daniel's finger were intertwined with (y/n)'s hair, her head was pressed against his chest, her eyes shut so she couldn't see them coming. even if they did shred their skin, killing them in an instant, they wouldn't break apart.
daniel tried to breath calmly as he was almost brought to his end. he could hear them coming. he could hear all of their footsteps. but suddenly, the footsteps were brought to a stop.
a loud 'thump' was heard from only a few feet in front of the two. daniel looked up with wide eyes and saw a dead body laying on the concrete floor of the basement. there a small pool of blood starting to form around the body's head. daniel didn't need to see the face to recognize who it was. the perfectly cut blonde hair, the light and fair skin. it was justin stenkins, someone daniel had never liked.
"(y/n)," daniel whispered. (y/n), who was almost too scared to even breathe, slowly turned her head away from daniel's chest and opened her eyes. she saw the body and gasped. "shh." he said as they heard more footsteps moving closer to them.
the flashlight had still been turned on. it rolled over to its side, letting its light illuminate the room. daniel saw a large figure, and (y/n) had seen it too.
"jonah?" daniel and (y/n) said at the same time.
"hey," jonah whispered.
jonah marais was a popular guy of the school, yes, but he was a quiet person. he wasn't an annoying boy who yelled at the cafeteria during lunch or who clapped whenever the principal said there school had won the football game on the announcements. he was a nice boy who had every girl's eye, whether they admitted it or not.
