Chapter 27

*Carl's P.O.V*

Pretty sure in a few minutes I'm going on a run with Ali and my dad.

I don't know the whole point of this run that we are doing but I'm just going with it because why not.

"Do you have your gun ready?" Ali asked me from when she was next to me.

"I gotta have it." I said.

"What about you?" I then asked.

"I have it right here." Ali said pulling it out from her holster.

"Good." I smiled.

We got ready for a few minutes longer until we had to leave.

We met up with my father who was outside of the door. He nodded at us and then we were out the door.

"So what exactly are we gonna be doing on this run?" Ali asked me.

"The normal I guess. I don't really know the purpose of this run even though it's our way we get ready." I shrugged.

So with gun in hand, Ali and I were just walking around this gas station.

We were looking into cars and then we looked from under.

As we were looking through, we heard voices.

"Be quiet." I instructed Ali.

"Always."

We made sure that we were looking in the right direction.

Then we saw someone.

I don't know who it is.

Ali doesn't know who it is either.

He's a complete stranger.

I didn't even have words for this guy. But he looked like someone who has been on his own for the longest time ever and I feel sorry for him.

While we were too busy looking at him, a shot was thrown above his head.

It was silent.

Then he ran off.

Ali and I turned around to see my dad.

"What was that?" I asked.

"It could've been anyone and I can't have anything happen." He said.

I shook my head.

I grabbed Ali's hand and walked away from him.

"There's still enough." I said.

"Enough of what?" My dad asked.

"Hope."

"We're going to the sanctuary." My dad told me as we were back at Alexandria.

"Okay. Do what you have to do." I told him.

He was in disbelief. I am thinking that he thought that Ali and I were gonna come with him.

"You're not coming?"

"I'm sure you're bringing everyone else that we're not that needed. I'm sure you guys will be fine." I said.

"Be careful."

"We'll try." I said.

Ali and I watched him walk away and he went with the group that was going with them.

I'm sure all of them are going except us two.

Alexandria, Hilltop, Kingdom.

The whole group. Together.
