There is so, so much that I have to say about this incredible journey.
So let's just go from the beginning.
I had wanted to start writing a Carl Grimes story ever since of what had happened to Carl in the Walking Dead. I started to write this book before it was the episode where it would be Carl's last. I started to write it. I picked the title to be |Hero| because I had thought that was what Carl was whenever I saw him on the show and since of what was gonna happen to him, I thought it was perfect to have the title be that title.
I wanted Carl to save my main character, Ali so there that was a purpose. Having Carl save her was the set goal to have him be the Hero in the story. I thought it had worked out really well.
Then when I wrote the chapter (which was chapter 33) where it would be Carl's last chapter in the story, I now got to show why he was, what he was. Then I can have Ali become a big character and I helped her.
Ali was my own original character so I got to do anything with her. I shaped her into the person that she was. I had some crazy things happen to her but that isn't bad though. I wanted Ali to have a strong character development and I think whoever reads this book can see that. We can see the change that she had.
Then later in the story, Ali had met Henry. Henry has been in the story since chapter 39 and I knew since that chapter that Henry was gonna be a huge part of the story. Henry indeed took over in the story but it helped Ali's character.
Ali sacrificed a lot for Henry. She did things that I would think not a lot of people would do. She sacrificed herself when her and Henry went to the whisperer camp, got stabbed in the leg just so that he didn't and then was in the pike lineup.
Ali did whatever Carl did. Carl didn't want nothing to happen to Ali so he died to prevent anything. Then Ali didn't want nothing to happen to Henry so she died to prevent it as well. Ali probably didn't know she was doing the same thing as Carl did but she wanted to do the right thing because that was what Carl taught her to do. So everything came in full circle.
Carl was a hero to Ali and then Ali was a hero to Henry.

Carl Grimes was the inspiration to how this story begun.
I wanted to write a book based on him and then do my own little twist. Even though a lot of stuff that had happened in the show had came in the book as well, I did use my imagination in it as well and I loved how it turned out.
Carl was a strong character and to write what he is thinking at times in his own point of view was really cool. Even though he was a main character, he wasn't my own character so I had to use most of my imagination on him because he wasn't in a lot of scenes in the last few episodes that Carl was in. He could be in an episode and have a sixty second conversation and that would be it so I had to use a lot of imagination. But I loved building Carl as a character in the same way the show did and I hope I did a good job.
