A couple weeks later, I went to the drug store and got a pregnancy test just in case. I paid for my stuff and walked out to the car, getting into the drivers seat. I took out my phone and texted Jaime.
Brianne: So I got a pregnancy test
Jaime: Omg! Seriously?! Does Ryan know?
Brianne: I haven't taken it yet and Ryan and I sort of gave it the old college try the other night lol
Jaime: Haha can I stop over and be there for support?
Brianne: Of course
I put my phone away and started the car, driving back to my house. Thankfully, Ryan was out with AJ, so I could get this over with and maybe give him a nice little surprise.
About twenty minutes later, the doorbell rang and I hurried over, answering it to be face to face with Jaime. She quickly hugged me and stepped inside as I closed the door behind her.
"Awe, Bri, just think you might be carrying a little bundle of joy."
"Being hopeful. I know Ryan really wants us to have a baby too."
"Well, I hope you drank plenty of liquids, go, go!" Jaime laughed, nudging me upstairs.
I walked into the bathroom and did what the box instructed, I finished up and washed my hands to join Jaime, who was sitting on mine and Ryan's bed.
"How are you breaking the news if you are?"
"I don't know? I didn't think we'd be starting this soon." I shrugged, sitting next to her.
"Blindfold him and make him eat baby food."
I chuckled at her idea. Not bad, but knowing it's Ryan, he'll say I tried to poison him.
"I was thinking maybe making his favorite dinner and then showing him the test?"
"Lame."
"Jaime."
"Well I'm sorry, but as one of your best friends, I want to help you make this announcement special." She smiled.
"Thanks, Jaime."
"You're welcome. Can we check the test now?" I nodded my head and walked into the bathroom, sighing. I know I didn't present the obvious symptoms, but I just had this gut feeling.
I sighed once more and looked down at the little white stick and only saw one pink line.
"Well?" Jaime asked from the bedroom.
"Negative." I said, tossing it in the waste bin. "I felt like it was going to be positive, Jaime." I frowned, walking in to sit on the edge of the bed.
"It's okay and it may still be too early. If not, you and Ryan can always try again." Jaime reassured, putting an arm around my shoulder.
"Yeah, you're right. Let's go downstairs and hang out for awhile."
We left the bedroom and walked down to the living room, sitting on the couch. Jaime was too involved with watching TV to notice tears falling down my face.
Though she was right that it might be too early, but I think today's results were set in stone.
***************
Dinner was already prepared and cooked, as I started setting the table I heard the front door open and close.
"Mm, smells good in here. What did you make?" Ryan asked, walking into the kitchen.
"Lemon and cracked pepper chicken breast, there's salad in the fridge and I'm just waiting for dinner rolls to come out of the oven."
I placed good sized portions on our dishes as Ryan took the salad out of from the fridge. We sat down at the table and began eating, an awkward silence falling over us, until Ryan broke it by clearing his throat.
"Everything okay?" Ryan asked, giving me a concerned look.
"Yeah." The oven went off and just as I was about to get up, Ryan stopped me and got up, going over to the oven.
"Buns in the oven." Ryan said, eyeing me. "You trying to tell me something, Brianne?" He smirked, putting an oven mitt on, pulling out the hot tray.
"No? I told you what was in the oven."
"Still, not trying to drop any hints on me?" Ryan questioned, sitting back down.
"Ryan, there are no hints to anything."
"Rick mentioned to me Jaime came over and said you took a pregnancy test."
"Why does he always have to be in our business?" I sighed. "Let alone, why does Jaime always have to tell him what goes on?"
"I guess Jaime got a bit too excited and told Rick."
"News really travels fast, huh?"
"What is the matter with you?"
"Nothing." I said, shaking my head. "Don't worry about it." I snapped, picking at the dinner on my plate.
"Bullshit, it's nothing."
I tossed my silverware on the table, sighing. "Because I took the pregnancy test and it was negative, Ryan."
Ryan didn't say anything. He just looked down at the table, biting his lower lip. "Okay." He spoke. "It was only the first time, we can try again. It's not the end of the world, Brianne."
"But I was so confident, that's why I got the test. I'm just feeling a bit heartbroken, Ryan."
"And there's no shame in that. We can try again, don't worry." Ryan reassured me, giving a small smile.
"I'm sorry for flipping out."
"Don't be sorry." Ryan scooted closer to me, taking my hand in his. "It just means, we get to keep trying." He giggled, poking my side.
"I can only imagine how tired we're going to be." I chuckled, shaking my head.
"Worth it though." Ryan smirked at me. "Let's finish eating dinner, okay?" I nodded my head and we continued eating, making small talk with each other.
