Today Ryan was upstairs, painting and fixing the spare bedroom for the baby while I was downstairs, filling out my baby shower registry. A quiet weekend afternoon, until a string of profanities came from upstairs.
"Brianne!" Ryan yelled. "Bri!"
"Hold on, wait! I can only go so fast." I said, going upstairs. "What did you do?"
"Obviously I hurt myself." I walked into the room and saw Ryan cradling his hand under a bloody rag.
"Oh my god, Ryan!" I freaked, rushing over to him. I lifted up the rag to inspect the wound and looked up at him. "How?"
"The area rug we bought to place under the crib was too big, so it needed to be cut, ugh."
"Come on, let's clean this up and get you some stitches." I took Ryan into the bathroom and cleaned the blood from his hand, tightly wrapping some gauze around it.
We got into the car and I drove to the emergency room, finding a parking spot once we got there. I sat down while Ryan got himself signed in and helped keep pressure to his hand. He was called back and we went back into an exam room, Ryan sitting up on the gurney.
"Hi, I'll be your nurse." A young, slim, brown haired girl smiled, walking in. "Let's take a quick look at your hand." She put on a pair of purple latex gloves and bent forward, inspecting Ryan's hand.
This girl was so far bent, even I could see down her shirt and I was sitting down!
"That's a pretty nasty cut. How'd that happen?" She asked, covering his hand back up.
"I was cutting an area rug for my son's nursery when the blade slipped." Ryan shrugged. His nurse looked over at me and shot me a dirty look and then gave me a fake smile.
"How sweet. The doctor should be in shortly, in the meantime I'll get your blood pressure and vitals." She pulled over the blood pressure cuff, rolling up Ryan's shirt sleeve and wrapped the cuff around it.
She filled the cuff with air, keeping her neatly manicured fingers on Ryan's arm. "Your pressure is good, top notch. Do you work out?" She asked, lightly brushing his muscle as he pulled the cuff off him.
Ryan's pressure might've been fine, but mine wasn't. This girl knew exactly what she was doing and she was doing it right in front of me. Ryan, if you're smart, you will not answer that question.
"Yeah, I try to stay in shape." He replied.
You dumb fuck.
She listened to his heartbeat real quick, took his temperature and then left the room. I was beyond livid at this point, I'm going to murder my husband.
The doctor came in, thankfully it was a male doctor. He looked over Ryan's hand, cleaning it up and then began to suture the wound up.
"You are all set my friend. Just to be safe, we're going to give you tetanus shot."
"Oh great."
The nurse came back in, this time she was holding a syringe and a vile of medicine. Give me the needle, I'll make sure Ryan gets his shot.
"I really hate to stick you." She frowned. "But we gotta do it."
I saw her pupils dilate when she pulled Ryan's sleeve up to expose his bicep. Oh lady, you don't know whose husband you're flirting with.
"Little pinch." She stuck the needle in Ryan's arm and I saw his eyes flinch just a little.
He's going to be flinching a lot more when we get home.
Ryan was released and we got in the car, heading back to the house. I was extremely quiet on my end. The storm inside was still brewing. We got back home, walking inside and Ryan went straight to the couch, me walking away from him.
"Where are you going?" Ryan asked.
"To finish my registry."
"Come take a break from that and relax with me."
"I need to get this finished up." I sat in the dining room and opened my laptop back up, resuming to fill out my online registry.
I was halfway done with what I was doing when that nurse popped into my head. She was so much better looking than me, she was thin and I highly doubt she was exhausted from carrying so much extra weight like me. I looked and felt like a beached whale.
I got so frustrated that tears were starting to slowly run down my cheeks. I silently cried to myself for about twenty minutes, feeling like complete trash.
***************
Later that evening, I was in the shower trying to relax myself and clear my mind. I pressed my palm against the cold shower tile and hung my head, bawling my eyes out again. I clenched my eyes and balled my fists up, getting so frustrated. I tilted my head back, opening my eyes as I let out a sigh. I calmed myself down and turned off the shower faucet, stepping out.
I grabbed two towels from cabinet and took my robe off the hook on the bathroom door. I dried myself off a bit and slipped on my robe, tying the front. I wrapped my hair up in a towel and walked out of the bathroom, going into the bedroom.
I sat on the edge of the bed and stared at the floor. "I feel so gross." I sighed, tears pricking my eyes.
"Hello." Ryan smiled, walking into the bedroom. "Have a nice shower?"
"Yeah."
"Good to hear." He kissed me on the cheek and walked into the bathroom, closing the door.
I unwrapped my hair and began to dry it, some water droplets falling to the carpet. I got off the bed, walking over to my dresser to grab some clean clothes and stopped in front of the mirror, staring at myself.
"I can barely see my feet." I moaned, looking down.
"Brianne?" Ryan asked, stepping out of the bathroom. "You okay?"
"You." I said, snapping my head up.
"Me?"
"Flirting with that damn nurse!"
"What are you talking about?"
"Asking if you work out, basically throwing herself at you, flashing her tits."
"I wouldn't-"
"I know I'm ugly now, Ryan. I know being pregnant I gained weight, I know I don't look like how I used to when we first met." I cried, wiping my face. "I'm just a fat housewife."
Ryan sighed, putting his hands on my shoulders. "Look, look in the mirror." He said, making me face the mirror again. "What do you see?"
"A blob."
Ryan sighed again, resting his chin on my shoulder. "No." He wrapped his arms around my waist, placing his hands on my stomach. "You know what I see?"
"A hideous mess?"
Ryan groaned, sighing once again. "I see a beautiful woman, who just happens to be my wife and I'm the luckiest guy in the universe." Ryan untied my robe, exposing my stomach. "Don't even get me started on this." He chuckled.
"You got a thing for pregnant women?" I joked.
"Just you. Brianne, you're radiant, pregnant or not I will always think you're perfect and beautiful, since day one I knew I had to have you."
I turned around with a small smile on my face and wrapped my arms around Ryan. "I'm sorry."
"For what?" He asked, pulling back. "You have nothing to be sorry for."
"I mean that nurse was flaunting herself, I just felt so insecure."
"It was terrible flirting, now if you were my nurse." Ryan smirked down at me. "I'd be all over that."
"Ryan." I laughed.
"I only speak the truth and I like your boobs way, way more." He said, moving my robe to the side to expose my bare chest. "So much more."
"Get outta here!" I chuckled, covering myself back up.
"I only speak the truth."
