In the 5 years that Yoongi was living with his father, he had completely lost contact with all his childhood friends. It started out with the ones he wasn't close with, Taehyung, Jimin, Jungkook, but slowly as time went by he lost his closest friends. Jin, Namjoon, Dowoon, Mark, Jackson, they all just slowly stopped talking to him. The last person he lost contact with was Hoseok... neither of them expected to grow apart. When Yoongi felt overwhelmed he remembered his memories with Hoseok, it always helped, Hoseok always helped. The last time they met at their tree Yoongi was just in a horrible mood. His new "friends" were being dicks and Yoongi just couldn't let them be. But all that still didn't excuse what he did. It was wrong to make his best friend wait so long, then to ignore him. It wasn't fair, and Yoongi knew that but he was too afraid to approach Hoseok again. He feared that the younger had changed too much and didn't want to see him anymore. He had feared that until he arrived, and saw the younger boy sneaking off into the house. Maybe he was too scared to talk to Yoongi, because he overreacted.
When Yoongi moved almost everything completely changed. He became loud and defiant, he did things his younger self never would have imagined. After year living around Darla and her smoking he had adopted the habit. In someways it calmed him down, but that was just the excuse for his addiction. Yoongi spent time with his new friends, he partied, drank and smoked weed. When he came home to his father he always made sure the scent was still on him. Just so his dad would know, just to piss him off.
Making his father angry was the only reason Yoongi did anything anymore. After his father took him away from his life Yoongi built up resentment towards the man. He would do anything to annoy him, anything to make his father hate him. After years of trying Yoongi managed to find one thing that worked. That is why he moved in with his mother. Because he finally made his father hate him. The only thing that remained the same in his life was music. Yoongi produced songs and wrote lyrics almost constantly. It was his form of therapy. He even uploaded some of his tracks to sound cloud sometimes, gaining quite a few streams. On top of that he began performing at clues and in underground rap battles with his friends. Although it felt like his life went to shit, Yoongi managed to keep his sanity by using music.
For the rest of the summer Yoongi and Hoseok decided to completely ignore each other. Occasionally the two would cross paths and they'd wave and leave it at that. That was until the school year started and they were both going to the same high school.
......."You've got to be shitting me!" Hoseok said as the rain started to pour. He decided to walk today rather then take the bus, it gave him more time to get ready which was always nice. When Hobi left this morning the weather appeared to be nice, the boy was sadly mistaken. By the time he reached the end of the street he was completely soaked. He was walking in the middle of the street when a car came up behind him and honked the horn. This caused Hoseok to move to the side letting the driver pass by. But the car didn't pass by, it stopped beside him. It was Yoongi in the car, when he pulled up beside the younger he rolled down the window.
"Do you wanna ride?" He asked. There was a cigarette hanging out of his mouth.
"I'll- I'll...be fine." Hoseok stuttered out, he wasn't sure if the stutter was from nervousness or from cold. At the response Yoongi took the smoke from his mouth and faced the other boy.
"No, you're not. Get in I'm giving you a ride." Yoongi said, his tone was final. This scared Hoseok into the passenger seat of the car. When he sat down Yoongi offered him a cigarette, Hobi politely declined the offer.
"It's probably for the best anyways." Yoongi said before stepping on the gas and turning the corner towards the school. Yoongi drove fast, faster then you were supposed to. He was too impatient to go slow. As Yoongi drove, Hoseok examined the older like he always did. He noticed new things, his ear piercings, his tattoos but he also recognized things that have always been there. The freckle on the side of his nose, his soft looking lips, his big hands. He seemed to have a tattoo on one of his fingers too, Hoseok couldn't tell what it was. Yoongi seemed to notice Hobi staring.
"It's a little butterfly, I got it in memory of my grandmother... she passed away a year ago." Yoongi explained, taking his hand off the wheel to show Hobi. The younger on reflex just grabbed his hand and examined the older's finger. Yoongi seemed to flinch a little at the touch but just decided to let it happen. The tattoo was quite detailed for it's size.
"I'm sorry to hear about your grandma... I know you guys were close." Hoseok apologized letting go of the older's hand. Both already missing the physical contact. Hobi didn't realize Yoongi's tattoos had meanings. Hoseok just figured he got them to be rebellious.
"It's probably for the best, she had a lot of health problems. Now all her pain is gone. I was sad for a while but I've accepted it now and I'm moving on." Yoongi explained further. Hoseok just nodded in agreement while the older spoke. It was an uncomfortably comfortable car ride. Just as the two were pulling up to the school, Yoongi made another turn in the opposite direction, which caused Hoseok some concern.
"Where are we going?" Hobi asked after Yoongi took a sharp left. Hoseok held onto the car door for dear life as Yoongi turned.
"I want a coffee. Do you want anything?" He said as they pulled into the parking lot of a coffee shop. He pulled into the drive through.
"Ice coffee?" Hoseok said. Yoongi just nodded before ordering. When they drove up to the window Yoongi paid for both drinks. Hoseok thanked him profusely, the only thing said in return was you owe me one. When they finally reached the school 5 minutes before the first class, the rain had stopped.
"Thanks for the ride!" Hoseok yelled while running off to his first class in fear of being late. Yoongi just waved and took his time walking into the school.
.......When Hoseok finally got to class he was one of the last ones to show up, meaning he didn't have much choice in where he sat. There were three seats open, two were both at the front of the class beside each other. And the other one was beside the teacher. He quickly walked towards the seat closest to the window and sat down. The first thing he did was text Jimin and Tae to apologize for not meeting them at school. He explained the rain issue and Yoongi, both boys seemed to understand. Although they wanted to hear more details at lunch. Just as the bell for class was about to ring Yoongi slowly walked into the room and took the last spot next to Hobi. It was obvious there was no way in hell he would sit beside the teacher.
"Hun, looks like you aren't getting rid of me yet." He said setting his backpack on the ground before sitting down. He pulled out a pencil and note book that was almost full already and wrote random phrases as the class went on. He looked like he barely paid attention all class but when the teacher asked him questions he managed to answer correctly. As class came to a close everyone was assigned a locker and as if it were fate Yoongi and Hoseok's lockers were next to each other.
"Locker buddies too. What is this?" Hobi asked jokingly. After putting his stuff in his locker.
"Must be a sign... well I'm off to biology." Yoongi answered closing his locker and locking it.
"Wait, do you have it with Mrs.Cole?" Hoseok asked. Curiously Yoongi said yes. Yoongi and Hoseok exchanges schedules and they seemed to have identical schedules this semester.
"Wait. Why are you taking all 12th grade classes... you're a year younger then me?" Yoongi asked.
"Because I've already taken all the 11th grade classes." Hoseok explained. It was a shitty explanation but seemed to work. Yoongi wasn't the type to ask questions.
"Well in that case, let's go to bio." Yoongi said after handing Hoseok back his schedule. The two old friends spent all day together, with the exception of lunch. It was strange but neither boy was complaining. At least they had a friend in the class, even if it were awkward between the two of them right now they knew they could count on each other. So the two spent most of the day in an uncomfortably comfortable silence, it was uncomfortable simply because of how comfortable the two were with each other.
