Chapter 25

When I woke up, I found the paper with the Pack's numbers on it still in my pocket. Tomorrow was my party. I wonder what all I'll end up getting. Looking around my room for clothes to wear, I remembered about how I probably have 5 more presents in my room. I already had the phone from Lachlan, but where would people hide stuff in my room? Looking down, I thought about my books. Maybe they put something behind them? I thought, walking over to them. I bend down and start moving some of the books, and I find the SIM card. 2 gifts down, 4 more to go. Continuing to look around, I end up finding a new PSP game, and a new sketchbook. How did they kno- never mind. Just two left, but I felt like I had searched everywhere. Finally, I think about my laptop. In the CD thing you could easily store a gift card or something in it. Checking in there, I find a Half Price Books gift card and a Barnes & Nobles gift card, both for $20. Just as I found them all, someone knocked on my door.

"Come in." I said, putting all the gifts on my bed. I turn and see Jerome looking at me. "Yes?"

"You need to get ready for school. Preston and Vikk are taking you." He said. "Oh, you found all the gifts. Yeah, you're getting even more on Saturday." I look at him, and then start looking for clothes to wear. I really need to see if I can get another fire hoodie. My only one needs cleaning. Putting on a new pair of jeans, I walk down.

"Hey Preston, can I have another fire hoodie? Mine needs washing." I asked him. He stands up and walks out, I guess to go get one. While he's gone, we all chat. "So, how long are you guys going to be here?" I ask the Pack.

"Probably till the Saturday after tomorrow." Vikk says. Why? He asks in my head.

Just wondering how long I'll have to put up with y'all. I think, mentally laughing. He rolls his eyes, and Preston walks back in.

"Here, it's a spare tie dye one. Adult small, right?" He asks me.

"Yes, adult small. Thank you." I say, pulling it on. Finishing my breakfast, I hurry upstairs and finished getting ready.

As I went to school, I chatted with Preston and Vikk, asking about their powers.

"So, how have your fire powers been?" I asked Preston, wondering when he last could have used them.

"Pretty good. Remember, you need to be the lookout for them." He said. I nodded, knowing exactly who he was referring to.

"I will. Do you think they'll see me as one of you? A 'failed' experiment?" I asked them.

"Probably not, but they will likely associate you as a close friend of ours." Vikk said. Once we get to school, I see Cheryl waiting for me and Raven. One glance and I could tell something was bothering her.

"See y'all later!" I said to Vikk and Preston, and then went quickly over to Cheryl. "What is it?" I asked her, worried.

"Liam told me to give you this. I got curious, and I read it. Trust me, you're not going to like it." Opening the letter, I began to read.

Dear Ashley,
I hope this got to you ok. We know what you are, and about the people you are living with. If you know what's good for you, you will go after school alone to the forest clearing where you have the dreams. If you choose to disobey is, we will not hesitate to hurt you by using the Pack.

I read it again, trying to figure out what was happening. Was I being, threatened? I thought to myself.

"Here Cheryl, I'm sure it was a prank. You know how boys are." I say, simply trying to calm her down.

"You're right. I had thought it was a love note when he asked me to give it to you though." Wait, did she just say a love note?

"Really? Him, a cool kid, liking me, an outcast?" I say, laughing at the concept.

"Of course. Why else would he try to talk to you whenever he gets the chance?" She said.

I thought about all of this as the school day progressed.

Vikk's POV

When she rushed over to her friend, the girl handed her a note. Tapping into her mind, I heard her reading it.

Dear Ashley,
I hope this got to you ok. We know what you are, and about the people you are living with. If you know what's good for you, you will go after school alone to the forest clearing where you have the dreams. If you choose to disobey is, we will not hesitate to hurt you by using the Pack.

What on earth? She was already being targeted? We weren't expecting anything to happen until the next week. And her party was tomorrow, too. Oh well, I guess I better tell the others.
