When I got home, I quickly went up to my room to finish my homework. Opening up the door, I was immediately smothered in a hug from a familiar redhead.
"Cheryl?!" I said, incredulous, when we pulled out of the embrace. She nodded, and I followed up with, "Why are you here, instead of at school?"
"Your dad and his friends have me a choice between here, my house, or school, and this was the only choice that didn't mean school." I laughed, and we began to catch up.
"So, where did you go? I know you were with Mitch, but I can't remember if he ever described it." I said.
"Well, it was actually fairly pretty. There was a tall oak tree in a corner, soft green grass, possible open ceiling, and no mosquitoes or fire ants." She gave vivid details, and I soon had an image painted in my head.
"So, it would have worked with all our powers?" I mused out loud.
"Wait, I know Mitch has invisibility, but you all have powers? What's yours?" Cheryl asked me. Hey Vikk? I thought.
Yes? He soon responded.
Can you show me Cheryl's favorite animal? I asked, having an idea. I was soon met with the image of a red panda. Saying thanks, I turned my attention back to Cheryl and shifted into a red panda. And I was quickly scooped up in her arms, being cuddled. Squirming, I escaped her tight embrace and shifted her into a red panda too.
"This is amazing! How'd you know this was my favorite animal?" She asked me.
"Vikk, the one shortest one, told me. He has telepathy, which he's getting better at." I answered. Cocking my head, I heard someone walking up. "Under the bed." I said, already forming a prank. "And don't think about it. Like I said, Vikk can read minds."
We had barely gotten our tails under the bed when the door opened. Before anything could happen though, we were suddenly downstairs in the living room. I quickly shifted us both back, and glared at Lachlan.
"Was it necessary to teleport us?" I questioned.
"Well, actually, it was. We don't know who is up in your room right now." He explained. Raising an eyebrow, I scanned the room for Mitch, knowing that since he could walk really quietly and turn invisible, he would make the perfect spy. As if knowing who I was looking for, Jerome answered my silent question.
"He's up there right now, if you're looking for Mitch, and Vikk is essentially looking through his eyes for us." Jerome explained.
"Lachlan, will you get Cheryl home?" Preston suddenly asked, quickly standing up. Lachlan nodded, and just like that, Cheryl was gone.
"What's happening?" I asked them, beginning to feel nervous. Before I could get an answer though, we all seemed to disappear.
Don't move, try to not breath a lot, just be as silent as possible. Vikk's voice came through. Just as he said that, someone came down the stairs. Recognizing him as the guy who put me in the box when I was nearly kidnapped, my eyes widened before I could stop them. Immediately his eyes shifted to me, and I barely contained a gasp of horror. Staying as still as possible, he soon turned away, and continued searching for us.
I had begun to get tired of standing when the guy finally left.
Stay still a bit longer, I don't want this to be a trap. Vikk said. Five minutes later, we all began to move again, I think.
"Mitch, will you please turn us visible again?" Preston's voice came from a seemingly empty space in the room. Soon, we could all see each other again.
"Hey guys, I think I recognized that guy." I started. "He was the guy who put me in the box that day where I was nearly kidnapped." Mitch nodded, confirming my suspicion. "Also, I still need to finish my homework." With that, I went upstairs.
Mitch's POV
When the guy had turned towards Ash, his eyes grazed over me, and I instantly recognized him as one of my captors. I hoped my invisibility had worked, since with this many people I could still for some reason see them. Ashley stood there, looking terrified, and I could tell she recognized him as well. After approximately six minutes or so, my Mitch time was a bit off, the guy finally left, having snooped around Preston's house enough. Vikk's voice came through to us, saying,
Stay still a bit longer, I don't want this to be a trap. Roughly five minutes later, we all began to move around, and Preston asked me to turn everyone back. When people actually succeeded with eye contact, I knew it had worked. Soon, Ashley broke the silence.
"Hey guys, I think I recognized that guy. He was the one who put me in a box that day I was nearly kidnapped." I nodded, her words supporting my thoughts. She soon dismissed herself, and went upstairs.
"So do y'all think they are actually after us, or have they set their sights on her?" Preston asked once she was out of earshot.
"They probably think that if they can get her by herself, they can easily catch her, since she's younger than us. But, since we have Liam, we ought to be better warned next time something like this happens, especially since I'm pretty sure he's acting as a double agent." Vikk said. Speaking of Liam...
"Do you guys think he was at school today, since he has skipped school before?" I asked. After a short pause, Vikk responded.
"Ashley said that he got to the bus late, but that he got on it while it was moving." He said. As we thought about that, there was a muffled shriek upstairs.
