Chapter 05 | Odelia
The air was cold, and the sky was shades of red and blue. Mom said this would be the time that the sun would be dipping over the horizon to trade places with the moon. However, I think she only told us that so the sky didn't seem so lonely. Everyone knew realms and realm gates were the way to travel between worlds there was no need for things such as the sun and moon.
They sounded like nothing but fairy tales.
With a sigh, I turned to pull the black mesh mask over my face as I walked towards the back of the store where the metal entrance stood. The tiny purple demon at the back brightened at sight of me, instantly opening the door.
I nodded in thanks my excitement rising. Through the door was a dark, stone staircase that spiralled down about twenty feet. It was dark and damp however, it was also easier to travel this way.
I headed down towards the bottom floor where the arena lay. Guilt dug at me as I knew I shouldn't be here but I couldn't help it. With that maid bugging me today it caused my anger to spike. The anger I could control but I couldn't help the darkness that followed it.
Looking down at my thin boots I realized I should have put my heavier pair on. But with sneaking out of the palace was easier in lighter clothing. Which also explained the thin black leggings that clung to my legs, and the black silk tank top I wore.
My only must have things was my mesh mask and the long deep red cloak I wore. It was my mark as the queen of the arena, and my cover from anyone knowing who I am. My tight pony tail which poked through the back of my mask and it swung back and forth as I hurried.
The faint calls of a crowd grew until it was obnoxiously loud as I reached the arching doorway at the bottom. I paused, to peer into the stadium size room. It held high ceilings and a large set of raising chairs. In the middle, stood a large cage where two demons currently fought.
I ducked towards the right, two guards nodding towards me as I moved towards the back of the arena. Once I reached the back of the cage two guards noticed me poking the arena boss.
Holden turned in his red tailored suit and saluted his matching red top hat towards me. He was a shadow demon with dark copper eyes. Once he saluted, I walked over to him, catching his wide grin.
"What weapon today my arena queen?" he purred laughing in delight.
I held up the small blade in the palm of my hand. It was all I wanted to use today. I wanted blood to spill, but I also wanted a fight. A fight for my life. That was the blood thirst I wanted today. It had been too long since my last fight and I wanted to be reckless.
"Wonderful! I cannot wait!" he sang then turned towards two of the guards.
I bounced from heel to heel, anxious to get into the cage. And soon Holden was clearing telling the guards to clear the cage. The door swung open and one battered demon wobbled out of the cage as a guard went into drag the dead demon out.
Soon, Holden was nodding to me to enter the cage. And I did, slipping in and walking to the furthest side as a demon slipped in behind me. Holden introduced us and, of course with my entrance the crowd went wild.
