Chapter 12 | Odelia
I hummed, twirling once in the mirror. The pastel pink skirt flew up around me showing the multiple pastel blue under layers. The gown was beautiful as always but it was also, me. With mom off doing who knows what, I was allowed to pick my own outfit. Of course it took a bit of a fit to convince the maids and the dressing staff.
I stopped spinning and looked in the mirror. Face free of make-up except for some lip balm (to help heal the cut in the inner side of my lip from my latest trip to the arena) and my hair pulled back into a fish braid that started from the top of my bangs right down to my shoulders.
The gown's corset had no sleeves and went right up to tuck under my chin. The corset's colour was the same blue of the under skirts, with the skirt high wasted and tied back by a long white ribbon. The gown stopped just short of my knees and I had my black boots that sat comfortably up to my ankles.
"You're wearing that?" Eric's voice gasped.
I spun around to look at the man who stood in my door way. My smile quickly melted into a frown and I glared at him.
"Why are you in my room? And what's wrong with my dress?" I demanded.
He smirked, "You look like you belong in a brothel or a circus."
My eye brow twitched with annoyance and I calmly picked up either side of my skirt so I could march over. Standing in front of him, his yes danced with desire and his body itched to be hurt. I sighed, my leg shooting out to kick him square in the chest. He let out an Oof and flew back into the hall.
What are you doing? Vidan demanded walking down the hall.
"He said I belong in a brothel!" I shrieked jabbing a finger towards Eric.
Vidan's eyes narrowed at Eric then, he merely shrugged and continued his walk down the hall. I noted his own dressing – black slacks, with his hair brushed back and he wore a white button up shirt.
"Wait!" I called after him, jogging to catch up.
His walking didn't pause but he did look over at me.
"Do you know why he's bringing us?" I asked.
It was only this morning that dad barged into the kitchen to steal our pancakes and tell us we would be taking a trip to the council. All of us. It had been such a long time since I had last been to the council. Of course it had. Dad always had taken Vidan – the future king. Not that I minded, I was no queen nor a leader.
"No idea," he replied stiffly.
I watched him carefully, my brother was on edge about something. And it occurred to me that maybe, just maybe he was ahead of me on all this. It was sure that he definitely knew more than me.
His eyes flickered slightly, and I realized his attention was most likely in my head. Anger grew in me as I let my glory engulf my mind. His walking came to a complete halt causing me to slam into him. I yelped, stumbling back.
"Why'd you do that?" I snapped.
"You closed your mind off? Why?" he snarled.
"Maybe I don't want you in MY mind all the fucking time!"
"That's never been a problem before, you're playing games Odelia. Dangerous games that are going to get you murdered in the streets somewhere!" He yelled causing heads to turn towards us.
