Chapter 14 | Cloud
And then, I opened my eyes.
Death has always been a complicated subject when it came to fear. Should one be afraid of death? Logically, the answer is no. The living has no reason to fear death – and the dead cannot fear at all. Death is reserved for the dead.
But what if one knew the known of death? The chapters after a final breath. Then, logically one could realistically fear not death itself but that which follows. Which would only bring up red flags in itself.
Well, look at me. Acting smart. It certainly didn't fit who I was before. But, who am I now? I died – but I'm not dead. Abaddon said I had transcended into the form I was always meant to be. Fate was finally falling into place and I had emerged into an angel. Yeah, fuck fate.
"Are you ready?" He hummed, his eyes still washing over me.
It was obvious that he was surprised I had lived at all. I'm oh, so glad he had such faith in me. A soft sigh pushed through my lips. I didn't blame him – not even a little bit. He had taken a gamble and used an angel technique on me. But I was no angel, only an abomination of love.
A false love at that.
"I am," I replied looking up towards the sky.
The moment I died, I seemed to had transported somewhere else. An endless meadow of white roses, and an endless blue sky. My first guess was somewhere in hell where Lucas would absolutely buy this land. However, Abaddon had been waiting for me here. He had called it the Limbo. I had died yet, I wasn't dead.
"Then we shall fly to the Almighty," he informed me.
Ah yes. Another confusing piece of information. You could not fly from hell to the almighty. You could not fly to hell from the surface. Yet, once dead (but not) you could fly from the Limbo to the Almighty. Well, you could travel from the Limbo to the abyss, you could travel from the Limbo to hell and you could travel from the Limbo to the Almighty – but you could not reach the surface from this place.
"Lead the way."
He simply nodded, his eyes still not leaving my form as he unfolded his wings. Here, they were much more massive and glorious. Gold wings stretched out, I could see every speck of detail from every feather, and ever gleam each one reflected.
Then, his own gold glory swirled around him, and he pushed off the ground launching himself straight up into the sky. I didn't have long to admire his beauty, as I knew I'd need to do the same or he'd leave me here.
I no longer had to concentrate nor focus to call upon my own glory. Thus, I no longer had a human body trapping me in. I was glory – and my glory was me. And so, I willed my wings to take form and they did. Mine were different from his now – mine were translucent like a ghostly figure of who I once was. My body glowed gold with the glory that now made the physical appearance of my body and I pushed my toes off the ground – following him into the sky.
"How interesting," he said, turning his head towards me as I caught up to him with little effort.
I rose a brow, "Why?"
