Chapter 32 | Odelia
The instant my foot connected with Cronas was the instant this battle, this war was over. As soon as he flew backwards Mom moved. She made the decision to shed her body, all remains of her body was gone and replaced by pure glory.
A scythe appeared in her grasp and it was over. Cronas turned to dust, and a silence fell over us all. This victory...it didn't feel all that great. Mom turned to us, completely ignoring the angels that began to move forward.
"Where did you get Enirr's blade from?"
"What have you done?!"
She ignored their questions. Gold leaked from her eyes – tears of an angel. It scared me, it scared Vidan beside me. The war was over but the sorrow in her eyes spoke more volumes then should have been there.
"My babies," she breathed, smiling, "I am so proud of you both."
"Mom what did you?" Vidan gasped, causing my eyes to dart over to him.
It was then I realized what my brother was staring at. Or rather, what was happening to our mom. I could feel my eyes widen then burn with tears. My heart began to beat wildly, and a wave of pure panic, pure anxiety tackled me head on. A sob bubbled up inside me as I moved forward. Her glory burned my skin but I didn't care.
Our mom was turning to ash.
Her fingers had already crumbled, and slowly her face was dissolving. In a few more seconds our mom would be gone. Into the wind and forever in our heart. This wasn't what I thought our final moments would be. This isn't how it was supposed to go.
"I'm sorry," she sobbed, her stubbed arms wrapping around me, "But I had to keep you both safe. Cronas couldn't come back. My love will always be with both of you, but my life is not worth yours in any means."
"You can't leave us," Vidan sputtered after a moment, stepping forward to grab mom's arm.
It crumbled in his grip, he stepped away horrified.
"It's ok," mom whispered, pressing her lips to his forehead, "This was meant to be my fate. It's ok my loves. You are the legacy your father and I always wished to protect. And we did until the very end. Now it's time for you both to define yourselves. It's time to be the queen and advisor's you were meant to be. Promise me you will never go against each other."
Tears dripped down my face as Vidan and I nodded. Mom shook her head, her hair was gone, and so was half her face, but the sternness in her remaining eye was clear, "Say it out loud."
"I promise," I made my oath.
I promise, Vidan echoed.
Mom nodded, "I love you."
And then she was gone. My hands shook, and my fingers stretched to where she had been standing. Nothing was left – gold dust dissolved in the air. I dragged my eyes away and they fell on the three angels that stood idly by as my mom was taken.
Taken cleaning up their fucking mess.
"She got what was coming," Raphael grunted, "Using Enirr's blade like that."
My eyes narrowed, my power exploded inside me and I snarled, "You."
Vidan's hands wrapped around my waist, holding me back. I struggled, until his power forced its way into my mind. His voice appeared, it soothed me, Calm down Odelia! Calm down sister.
Tears continued to drip as a sob broke free of my throat, "This is all your fault!"
"We are sorry about Cloud, we are sorry this turned out like this," Michael said softly.
