Chapter 27 | Vidan

"Samuel," I hummed spotting the man sitting in the kitchen.

He had been in a sour mood ever since father was hospitalized. He felt like he had failed as his guard and honestly, he had. Thus, I had no words to comfort him, he deserved all the guilt that riddled his body.

"The queen has requested you in the king's room," I told him and instantly he jumped up.

"Cloud is back?"

"Obviously, go," I replied sharply.

He nodded, his pure black eyes revealed nothing but relief. He quickly left the room, and I sighed deeply. Cronas needed to be dealt with as soon as possible – because I doubt we'd survive another attack against him.

"Vidan?"

The small voice brought pleasure to my heart and I turned to face Lola all too happy that she had arrived. How long had it been since I had seen the wolf girl? Too long. I had been so busy with father lately, I had shut her out.

"Good morning beautiful," I spoke unable to hold back, I merely missed her so.

She blushed, a frown on her face, "Your majesty, please do not talk to me so informally."

I rolled my eyes, "I'm temporary king so I can do whatever I want."

"How childish," she muttered.

I smiled, she was truly a breath of fresh air in this toxic filled air. Looking at her now, her short grey locks had gotten longer – down to her shoulders now – and her green eyes sparkled. She had also traded in her maid outfit for a pair of thick leggings (her thick, grey tail poked through in an adorable manor) and a man's white tunic.

"You look lovely today – what brought on the change?" I hummed amused.

She blushed, her scowl growing, "Master Caden believes we should no longer be hiding as the number of palace guards have decreased. He said we must be on high alert to attack at any moment."

I nodded, "Uncle Caden is a wise man. I approve fully of the new outfit."

"I-I yes, um, thank you," she stammered, her eyes widening and her ears twitching, "Oh goodness! Vidan, your sister left the palace."

And just like that my smile melted off and my eyes narrowed. Power surged from me, the glass dishes in the kitchen shatter and exploded. Lola barely flinched – she knew how my anger could get. And right now I was furious.

"Excuse me Lola," I growled moving past the wolf demon and into the hall.

I marched down the hall and back towards the hospital wing. If Odelia didn't wish to follow my orders, then I hope Mother could. This was beyond frustrating and Odelia was truly annoying me. I could feel Lola trailing behind me.

I swung open the door loudly, not caring as it hit the wall with a loud BANG.

Sitting beside father's bed was mother. She flinched at the sound of the door and I felt a pang of guilt, however not enough to apologize. There was bigger issues at stake right now. Such as how to deal with a child that refused to listen or behave.

"Mother," I growled, "Odelia has left the castle grounds. I believe she is going to Cronas."

Mother nodded, not seeming all too bothered, "I hope she took a guard – do you know if she did? Oh! Please tell me she's not wearing one of her nice gowns."

I blinked slowly, "Mother. She is going to meet Cronas."

"I heard you the first time darling, she can handle herself – what is your issue with the matter?"

"Issue? My 'issue' is she might join him!" I snarled, the walls around us splintering as dry wall rained down.

Mother sighed deeply, standing to walk over to me and pulling me against her chest tightly. I was surprised by the hug, then wrapped my arms around her. It was a comforting motion, which quickly calmed me. I breathed out slowly, my eyes fluttering closed briefly before reopening.

"Trust your sister, I know I raised both of you well. I know she will make a good decision," she murmured in my ear and I sighed deeply.

"Then you know I must go after her."

She nodded, stepping back, "Go."

"What will you do?" I was confused, something was off, was mother planning something?

She smiled softly – sadly, "I do what needs to be done. Make sure Odelia gets home safe."

I nodded, "I will."

With a final wave I stepped back into the hall – much calmer this time. Lola was leaning against the wall opposite to the door however, she was not alone. I frowned looking at grandfather Saanti as he seemed to be trying to balance a rose bulb on his nose. Lola seemed to be watching him curiously however, I knew he was not here to play around.

"Grandfather," I greeted him, "Can I help you?"

The rose bulb fell to the floor and he grinned from ear to ear, "Little Daniel, good evening! I was waiting for you – do you know how hard it is to balance a rose on your nose?"

"Next time try the flower not the seed."

He tilted his head, his gold eyes shimmering, "Yes, I shall. It would seem a group of angels have come to imprison Cronas. Cloud sure got them riled up, will you greet them when they arrive?"

"I need to go after Odelia."

He gasped loudly, "Nonsense! As temporary king you must greet them!"

I groaned lowly, "When do they get here?"

"They're about to land above the ice boys little warehouse – you'd better hurry or they'll be angry and melt down the ice manor, people and all!" he giggled.

My eyes rolled, "Then you know where Odelia is?"

He turned on his heels, his golden eyes glistening over his shoulder, "You'll find out soon enough. Don't let the angels wait too long grandson."

I watched him skip away, Lola moved closer to me to grab my hand. Holding it against her heart. I realized feeling the beat under my fingertips calmed me much more than mother's hug would ever. I gripped her hand tightly, causing her cheeks to blush and I smiled.

"Will you come with me to meet a few angels?" I asked.

She nodded, her ears perking, "I will follow you anywhere."
