Chapter 06 | Vidan
I wanted pie. Some wonderful cherry pie topped with whip cream and shaved chocolate bits. But thanks to my darling sister I was locked in her room instead of treating myself. It had been only a few hours since my last taste of delicious sugar and now, I carved it once again.
My eyes drifted over to where Odelia lay on her back. Thankfully, we had gotten her back with no problems. Her wearing her mask and cloak still had made it much easier so when father had told the guards she was merely a new prisoner to the basement, they believed him.
After, father scooped her up and carried her back to her room – which was directly across from mine. Despite the rage boiling off him, he held himself calmly. Ordering me to watch over her until she woke.
The pink painted door opened and Eric took a step inside whistling lowly as he looked around. It didn't surprise me considering her personality and her room. Her walls were painted a bright pink, with black sheets on her bed as well as black furniture. At the large window, black curtains kept the room in mostly darkness however, on silver shelves lining the four walls were shelves. And on the shelves, an army of stuffed animals crowded them. Not to mention the stuffed animals I had pushed off her bed when father laid her down.
Her most favoured secret – her favourite colour was pink and she adored stuffed animals. No one would have ever imagined that from the brutal princess but then again, not everything was what it seemed. Despite her attempts to hide it the truth was she enjoyed being princess.
"Did you bring me food?" I grumbled turning his attention over to me.
Eric smirked, tossing me a bakery bag and I brightened peering inside. Warm brownies assaulted my nose and I greedily began shoving them into my mouth. My good friend snickered and I merely rolled my eyes at him. He could snicker all he wanted, I was the one in complete bliss at the moment.
A small moan of discomfort and my eyes slid over to where Odelia laid. It was almost noon and she was fully healed now. Out of the two of us, she had always healed much faster. Grandfather had told me it was due to her angel blood but I knew even the ex-king wasn't sure.
Not that anyone wanted to inform my sister that she most likely had perks due to her mix of angel and demon blood. But that knowledge was just another thing added onto the list of things Odelia didn't and couldn't ever find out.
But that also had to do with mother and father. After so many years leading hell, mother was practically titled a demon herself. If anything, they merely called the queen a fallen angel. But it was no secret that mother and father had powerful enemies. Ones that would love to be near the mix of father and mother.
Another moan of discomfort and I glanced over once again to my sleeping sister. Deciding she had enough time to rest, I walked over to the bed, and threw out my foot pushing her flat out of the bed and onto the floor. She jolted awake with a yelp pushing herself up from the floor to glare at myself.
"What is your problem? I was sleeping!" She snapped.
I merely shrugged, "you don't deserve sleep."
Eric snickered, causing her attention to float over to him. It was amusing to watch the confusion in her eyes, then it turned to annoyance then anger. She pushed herself up, walking over to stab her finger towards his chest.
"Why are you in my room?" she barked.
Satisfied she was up and clearly feeling better I left the two. I wasn't one to start lecturing her, I would leave that to father. She was reckless and arrogant but as long as she was safe I wouldn't bother to lecture her.
Footsteps at the end of the hall had my head looking up and I noted father walking down the hall towards me. Gold eyes blazing with seriousness and his black hair was as messy as mine usually was and I realized he must be exhausted from dealing with Odelia.
"She awake?" he asked sounding old and tired.
I nodded tightly. And he passed me down the hall towards her room. Instead of going towards the kitchen like I was going to go, I headed towards the balcony that over looked the garden. It was there, where I found my mother sitting on a chair.
Something was clearly wrong and as I pushed open the glass door, her sniffling told me that she had been crying. Frowning, I walked over to her and offered her the last brownie. She laughed weakly and took it, breaking it up into tiny pieces before popping them into her mouth.
Knowing she'd never tell me what was wrong I did the one thing I could think of. I stretched my power over to her mind but it snapped back towards me causing me to stumble back slightly. She sighed looking over at me, her light grey eyes glowing with glory.
"I know you're only doing that because you care but I'm telling you now – don't try and get into everyone's mind. Some people will mistrust you because of it, or hate you or even try to kill you. You need to let people have their own secrets," she told me softly.
Once realizing she wasn't angry at what I tried to do I nodded feeling foolish. I should have known my powers wouldn't work on my mother – the queen no less. But that only meant that there'd be enemies I would be worthless against. Anger coiled in my stomach and I balled my fists, a delicate hand was placed on mine and I looked up widely at mother.
She smiled kindly, "Don't worry about anything Vidan, for now please just enjoy your life and let your father and I deal with all the messy things."
It was easy for her to say. And it was such a thing for her to ask. Every parent wanted that for their child but we were different. They should have known that the moment they fell in love. Nothing could ever be normal and easy for us. Because the angel blood fell in love with the former prince of hell.
Instead of getting angry at her I looked towards the garden. A breeze blew the white roses over and I looked towards the storm that brewed over our heads. It would pour down soon and I hoped mother went inside before then.
"Cloud, time to go."
Lady Kitty appeared from a cloud of blue smoke and I watched in awe.
I glanced over towards mother who tensed and stood. The white gown she wore brushed against the floor and she elegantly moved to brush out her perfectly fine skirt. She nodded towards Lady Kitty who glanced over at me and smiled.
"Good morning Vidan," she greeted.
"Morning Aunty," I replied grinning brightly.
Mother kissed my cheek before walking over to her personal guard and best friend. Then Lady Kitty had whisked them both away in another puff of smoke. Once she did, the bright grin on my face melted away and I looked up towards the sky as lighting flashed.
There was a sick feeling in my gut that had told me something far beyond my sister and I was going on. Something was wrong and father and mother were working very hard to keep it from us. Odelia I understood, but I had always been kept in the loop by father. He trusted me as the prince of hell and as his son.
Yet now, I was so blind before but it was clear something with up. Foolishly, I realized that must have been the reason father accepted Eric trailing Odelia so easily. I felt stupid and childish. I wasn't paying attention and I became ignorant.
"Damn," I hummed.
I would have to take matters into my own hand and get to the bottom of this. Whatever was coming was serious enough to have father and mother worried. Which meant the time of relaxing was over. As the prince of hell I owed my title an obligation and protecting my family was one of them.
I'd take care of this in secret so father and mother wouldn't find out. First was to find out exactly what was going on. Rain began to fall, instantly hitting my face and shoulders and I allowed it to soak me as I stretched my power out. I called first to Eric, then Lithan, Digget, Lola and finally the final person I trusted: Kardenal.
Then, I turned to leave the balcony. I needed to change then meet up at our special place and discuss all this. Surely we could get to the bottom of all this and fix it before the old generation did. After all, we were the next generation of hell.
