Chapter 19 | Vidan

I leaned my back against the door, which did little to block out the angrily snarling of my sister and defensive pleads of our father. Who, did nothing when Odelia went missing. I sighed, pushing my anger back and tilting my face up towards the dark ceiling.

"Waiting for your sister?" the musical voice tinkered.

I glanced over at the girl with the blazing red eyes, then I took in her new outfit. My brow rose towards her and she smiled brightly, "Lady kitty moved my stuff from the dungeon to the room next to yours."

"And the leather dress?" I asked humored.

She shrugged, blushing deeply, "I don't have anything that isn't revealing or leather."

I got off the door and strolled over to her. Taking a lock of her brown curls between my fingers I looked at her, my eyes softening.

"You know, as my advisor you will need to dress with more class," I told her.

"I-I thought that was just a cover!" she cried.

I hummed, pulling away, "Perhaps. Or maybe you will – it doesn't matter. Appearance is everything Poppy. It shows your status, your power, and your respect."

"I understand, I'm sorry," she replied, her eyes dipping towards the floor.

My hand waved her apology off. The girl still had lots to learn, and I didn't mind teaching her. I believed she did have the potential to be an advisor one day and perhaps even my own. That would also mean she needed to stay away from the dungeon.

"I wish you weren't my father!" Odelia's scream cut through the air, and everyone in the hall seemed to pause.

The door to father's study swung open with enough force to slam against the wall and she paused glancing at me briefly before storming down the hall.

I frowned.

Whatever father had said, had the power to drive Odelia to tears which meant he said something truly crude. My eyes glanced into the study where father sat at his desk, one of his elbows propped up on the table his hand holding his face.

"Have you been standing there long Vidan?" he sighed, leaning back in his chair.

I entered the study, closing the door behind me, "What did you say to her?"

"The truth. She can't expect us to always look after her when she's acting like a brat," he replied coolly.

My head tilted, my anger shattered the windows.

"Are you serious Vidan?" he groaned flinching away from the shards.

"Just because mother isn't here, does not mean you get to treat us like burdens. Odelia was kidnapped – does that mean nothing to you? The future of Hell was kidnapped why do you act like this?" I snarled.

He slammed his fist onto the desk, "Enough. Don't talk about things you know nothing about. If you are that concerned about Odelia then how was she kidnapped in the first place? She does not need you babying her. She does fine on her own."

I gritted my teeth in anger and without another word I fled the room. Almost running over Poppy in the process. She shrieked, falling backwards and my arm shot out to steady her. I sighed, running a hand through my hair.

"Apologizes, were you waiting for me?" I asked pulling her with me down the hall.

"Yes, as your advisor I should be at your side," she giggled.
