I sighed as I sat high up in the tree, the wind rustling the leaves and creating a calm ambiance. The moon was out but the stars were hidden due to the lights of the city. I looked around and saw that the park was finally empty so it seemed like the perfect time to mess around with my powers.

At the swoosh of my hand, the once clear sky filled with clouds. The wind picked up speed and the tree began to shake underneath me just as the rain began to fall. It quickly turned from a light sprinkle to a complete downpour and I laughed. I let myself fall from the tree and walk down the path over to the bushes that still let me hide but without the risk of falling.

Hiding was the only way I felt safe, knowing that there was a low chance of anyone seeing me perform these tricks was the only thing that could ease my anxiety. It was hard being something other than human, containing your powers all day no matter how desperately they want to burst out of your skin. These powers felt like they were clawing at my insides, begging to be used and it hurt to keep them contained. But when I finally let them be unleashed, they came out at full force. It seemed as though they were making up for the lost time. My mentors tell me that as I get older it will be easier to control my powers but I've yet to see if they're right.

My thoughts were interrupted as watched a small toddler run down the path with no parent in sight. He looked miserable but I wasn't sure if it was due to his lack of proper attire or for other reasons. But I do know that his mood was only going to get worse by what was probably about to happen.

The toddler ran in the center of the path, no clear destination besides away from what I could tell. What he didn't realize is that his motor skills were still developing and running on a rocky trail was very different from the carpeted floor in his home. And the rain was just making it worse.

It wasn't surprising when the child fell.

That didn't mean I knew what to do with the kid when he started crying.

Panicked, I conjured up an umbrella, a seemingly strange ability to pair with my power but now it made sense why these would go together. I slowly approached the small child, hoping to not scare him away, and covered him with the umbrella. The rain may have already soaked him completely but there was no need for him to be pelted by the rain any longer.

"Hi kiddo, where are you running off to?" I asked, hoping he wouldn't just stare at me in fear.

He looked up and sniffled, either from crying or because he was cold. "I'm running away," He stuttered as tears still ran down his face.

"Well, do you know where you're going?" He shook his head and I smiled down at him, "Why are you running away?"

He sniffled again, "Mommy wouldn't let me have another cookie."

"Well, I'm sure Mommy had her reasons. Maybe she knew you would get a belly ache, or wouldn't be able to eat dinner and would end up going to bed hungry."

The little boy looked up to me and pouted, "Is that really why?" I nodded and he thought for a moment. "Does that mean I'm being a big meanie?"

I nodded again, "Your Mommy is probably very worried about you right now."
