The last survivor

You hugged your legs to your chest as you stared at the ground ahead of you. Reno was seated beside you, also lost in thought.

"What did he mean by I wasn't the one?" You questioned suddenly, throwing Reno off guard. Reno looked at you in surprise. He then sighed and looked forwards.

"Well, he was referring to the one who annihilated the men in black cloaks six years ago. The man you saw just then is the sole survivor of the annihilation six years ago. Although he didn't come out unscathed." You turned towards Reno in confusion.

"What do you mean?" Reno looked to the side and stared at the now locked door.

"He's lost about eighty percent of his vision. He can't see well anymore thanks to his eyes being injured on that day." You furrowed your brow at this.

"Then...is that why he was looking at my face closely?" Reno nodded.

"Yeah, although he can't tell what you look like anymore, he relies on colour. Actually, he was focusing more on the colour of your eyes." You blinked at Reno in confusion.

"My eyes?"

"Yeah. You see, the eye colour of the one responsible is purple." You cocked your head to the side.

"Purple? Like as in amethysts?" Reno nodded.

"Yeah, so when he was touching your eyes before, he was checking to see if you were wearing any eye contacts to change the colour of your eyes." You frowned. You then looked down at your lap and held your hands together.

"Hmm." You hummed in thought. Reno eyed your curiously.

"What is it?" He questioned, turning towards you. You bit your lip and crossed your arms over your chest.

"The one who took out all of the men in black cloaks, were they the one who saved me back then...?" You wondered out loud. Reno's eyes widened.

"Wait you've MET them before!?" Reno cried, bringing everyone's attention towards you. Suddenly all of the survivors surrounded you asking you questions. You looked around nervously and crawled back towards the wall. Reno's eyes widened in realisation and he stood up and ushered everyone back. "Hey give her room! Let her explain herself!" Reno shouted. You swallowed hard as everyone turned towards you expectantly.

"W-well I can't really say that I met them, but there is a slight chance that they saved me when I was surrounded by them." A middle aged man took a step forwards.

"What do you mean surrounded by them?" He questioned. You looked down at your feet and held your legs to your chest.

"Well, me and my best friend Plue were running away from the city when we were suddenly surrounded by cloaked men. The leader then showed up and-"

"You met the leader and SURVIVED!?" Another survivor questioned. You jumped and nodded.

"Y-yeah, he killed Plue. He was then about to kill me when I lost consciousness. When I woke up, I was covered in blood. Although it wasn't mine." You explained. Everyone stared at you with wide eyes. They then began to whisper amongst themselves. You frowned. "W-what is it?" Reno looked at you and pressed his lips into a thin line.

"Well, it's just that nobody has even seen the one who ended the black plague. The fact that you've had contact with them is a big discovery. The one who ended the black plague ended it by annihilating almost all of the men in black cloaks starting with the leader." Reno explained. You frowned and looked down.

"So the leader is dead...?" Reno nodded at this. The door then opened and the guards threw someone into the room. Your eyes widened as you all looked up. It was another survivor! The survivor was a man who looked to be in his twenties. He laid on the floor, unconscious. Reno sighed and stood up.
