Katie's POV

As I wake up, Emma isn't in our room yet. Cat is still sleeping, so I quietly change into shorts and a tanktop. I slip on some flip flops and head for the park in case Niall hasn't found her.

At the thought of Niall and Emma together makes me stop and sit against one of the walls at the hotel. I put my hands together as if praying, and try to hold back tears. Niall was always my favorite member of One Direction, and the way his blue eyes twinkle, how could you not love him? I quickly brush the idea off of Niall and Emma, and remember what I was actually doing. Finding Emma.

When I reach the park, families are everywhere. Parents laughing together with their little kids enjoying themselves so much. You couldn't see anything more beautiful and perfect in the morning.

I find a tree with a big trunk, and decide to sit there, I look around to see if I spot Emma. All the people are adults from what I can see, but with Emma's height difference, it's hard to tell if she's there or not. Emma isn't visible. Only a pond.

A pond.

Emma can't swim.

James's POV

When I arrive at the breakfast area in the hotel, everyone's there except Emma and Katie. I smile when I see Niall, and rush over to him.

"Niall!" I exclaim when I reach him. He looks at me and smiles.

"Hello, James-"

"I can't find Katie! And Emma's still not found, I don't think. I haven't seen her!"

Cat overhears us, and walks to where I am.

"He's right, Niall. Katie and Emma are nowhere." Cat says worriedly. Niall looks like he's holding something back, that he's not telling us, I just can't figure out what.

"I'll go find Katie," he says. He looks worried for her, and I frown. Cat smiles, then goes back to eating breakfast with Brad. Niall pulls me aside, and holds me against a wall.

"Can you keep a secret?" He whispers.

"Uh...yeah." I reply.

"Look, I found Emma. She's fine. But Katie I haven't heard or seen. Take this plate of food up to my room and give it to Emma. Don't start a conversation with her. I'll go find Katie," Niall instructs me.

"I want to find Katie, too." I object. Niall frowns.

"No. I need you here," he says, but I can tell he likes Katie almost as much as I do.

"Fine," I give in.

"Thanks mate," and with that, he runs out of the room, no one even noticing.

Katie's POV

As I sit in the park, I see a boy sprinting to me. I squint my eyes trying to figure out who it is, until he's close enough. He has dirty blond hair and twinkling blue eyes. It could only be one person.

Niall.

"Are you all right?" He asks me. Worry fills his eyes. He sits down beside me under a tree.

"Yeah I'm fine. I'm looking for Emma," I explain to him. The worry leaves his eyes, and he hugs me tight.

"I was worried because you were missing," he says. Tears fill my eyes, knowing that someone cared about me that much. No one had before.

"I-I-I'm c-c-c-cold," I mutter under my breath. I feel chills everywhere, Niall's body heat not helping. I feel his arms wrap around me, and it helps a bit.

James's POV

As I reach Niall's room, I knock on the door. I hear singing on the other side of the door and the voice could only belong to Emma. She couldn't hear the knocking, so I tried again. The singing stopped suddenly, and the door flies open to a girl with bruises, scars, and cuts. Beneath all the injuries, I see a terrified Emma.

"How'd you know I was here?" She asks me quietly.

"Niall told me. Katie's missing, probably looking for you, and while he went to save her, I had to bring you breakfast." I tell her. She looks at me like she's scared.

"Thank you, James. You can go back to eating now," she tells me.

I decide to do as instructed and walk down the stairs, still trying to believe that was really Emma.

Niall' s POV

Katie snuggles in my arms while I hold her tight. It seems so right, so perfect. It's already mid-afternoon and we don't care. We still just sit in the park, under a tree, her in my arms.

When it grows to be nighttime, stars twinkle brightly above our heads. Katie soon panicks, and remembers how Emma is still missing. I tell her everything and she looks relieved that her best friend is okay.

"We should probably get back. People will start to wonder," Katie tells me

"Okay. I'll walk you back." I smile.

When we get back to the door of her hotel room, Katie looks at me.

"Thank you for everything, Niall. Today was so much fun!" She exclaims. I smile.

"No problem, Katie. Shall we do this another time?" I ask her.

"Of course!" She says. I lean in to kiss her on her cheek. She smiles and kisses mine back, too.

"Thanks again," she laughs.

"My pleasure," I say, and leave her with a wink and a day to remember.

Katie' s POV

As soon as Niall leaves, I rush to the roof to clear my mind. I press the top floor button as I enter the elevator and enjoy the music that the elevator plays.

When I reach the roof, cool night air surrounds me, and it feels wonderful. I look around to see if anyone else is up here, and see a short girl with a white t-shirt that is obviously way too big on her tiny body. She has brown hair and dark blond highlights. She has bruises, scars, and cuts everywhere along her body.

I know it's Emma.

And she's wearing Niall' s clothes. I quickly run back to our room with Emma screaming "wait" over and over again. But I can't talk to her. Or Niall.

Today has just been a lie.

A big fat lie.
