Katie's POV
I'm lying in a bunk and I turn to see Connor sitting on the couch in the distance. He when he notices I'm awake, and I smile too. There's just something about Connor that makes you smile when you see him.
"Hey, how are you feeling? I'm really sorry-"
"Don't be sorry, Connor. It's my fault anyway. I should've never tried to freak you out or even done the zombie apocolypse. Plus, something seems to be cursing Emma and I...we're always getting injured." We laugh and Cat walks in, smiling.
"Looks like the zombie woke up," she looks at me. I roll my eyes, but then she bends down pulling me into a hug.
"It's nice to see my best friend again," Cat says as she slowly pulls away from the hug. I smile and nod when she can see me, letting her know that I feel the same. Connor rolls his eyes and laughs.
"Waffles are ready for you when you're ready for them," Connor informs me.
"Chocolate chip?" I ask Connor. He smiles and nods.
"Chocolate chip."
As I walk out from the bunk area, I see Tristan admiring a guitar case. He's applying stickers on it ever so carefully. I then turn my attention to where Brad and James are playing chess. They're both so cute, and both so good at chess. Both sides only have 3 things left on the board per person.
I assume they'll ignore me for their game so I leisurely walk to the fridge , but Brad saw me.
"Hey, Katie! James here needs help because he's afraid of losing to the Chess Master!" James shoots his head upward from the board to look at Brad. I can't see James's face, but I assume it's a glare from the expression Brad's trying to hide.
Fear.
"I don't need help! I'm equally as good as you right now! Just look down and see for yourself!" He turns to look at me, and his angry expression quickly changes to a happy face.
"Hello there, Katie. Sleep good?" I nod my head, impressed. Whenever I get annoyed, it takes me at least fifteen minutes to settle down. Apparently for James, it only takes a second.
"Yeah. How long was I out?" I figure that my waffles and drink would have to wait.
"Hours. You slept through the whole concert." James replies.
"How was the concert?"
"It was amazing!" Cat says before James could say anything. "I don't know how Brad does it!" She plops down onto Brad's lap, and he kisses her cheek. They're just too cute together, Cat and Brad.
"Ok then," I laugh.
I can see James smiling at me in the corner of my eye. I know he likes me as more than a friend, and for a moment, I think I feel the same way. I walk over and sit next to him on the couch. and he squeezes me in a hug. The world seems to disappear then, and I have to admit I loved it. I never thought that I would ever love James. Ever.
I guess I was wrong.
The moment was ruined by Tristan's entrance.
"The guitar case is done! Let's go love people and Connor!" James holds my hand as we stand up.
I see Connor with Tristan, and hear encouraging notes from Tristan that Connor would find a girl soon that would be perfect for him. Brad and Cat are behind them, laughing uncontrollably. Brad has his arm around Cat and is pulling her close to him, protecting her. I smile and wonder if any boy would ever love me like that. Cat is so insanely lucky.
