i hop out of mary's car and pulled my bag close to my body. Mary gave me a short wave before driving away, leaving me standing in front my house. I let out a small sigh, and walked into the door to open it.
as I was walking to my room I saw jasper looking out the window in the dining/living room. I smiled softly and walked to him. he felt my approach so he turned his head to me and returned the smile.
"nice view, is it?" I asked while staring at the view.
he looked at me and smirked. "yes it, is."
"are you alone?" I questioned him.
"yes, everyone else is hunting." He answered.
We sat in a comfortable silence staring out the window. "jasper," I called him. "you don't mind if I asked you something personal?"
"not at all." he said in his thick accent.
"tell me about you life before, you know... before changing?" I asked, felling a bit regret when I saw him flinch.
he sends me a tiny smile as he felt my emotions. "I was the youngest major in the Texas cavalry. All without having seen any real battle,"
"until..." I said getting more interesting.
his eyes darkened. "Until I'm not a certain immortal. Maria. I was riding back to Galveston after evacuating a column of women and children, When I saw her..."
he stopped for a moment and took an unnecessary breath. "she was creating an army of newborns. she was smart, careful. And she had me. I was the second in command."
"what a bitch..." I muttered to myself.
his lips stretched into a smirk that sent shivers down my spine. "she was." I burst into laughter as he's watching me with an amused look.
after My laughter died, I said; "please, continue."
"My abilities to control emotions served her well... I trained her newborns. I could feel everything they felt."
I flinched at the thought. "that's must be hard."
he nodded "very much. I thought what Maria and I had was love. But I was her puppet. She pulled the strings. I didn't know there was another way... until I found..." he stopped.
"found who?" I asked.
"you..." He said, staring straight at my eyes.
I widen my eyes slightly, I tried to speak, but I was speechless. "m-me?"
"yes you, Elizabeth." He spoke.
"i-i'm... I'm sorry, it's just..." I laughed nervously. "I'm surprised."
he took my hands to his. "we're mates, Elizabeth. In somehow you have to accept the mate bond." He said.
I nodded. "I know jasper, and I'm happy about it. and I want to accept out mate bond but not now..."
