Alexander's P.O.V

"Have you found her yet?" John asked in an impatient tone as I turned towards him. "No, and an hour before that I didn't either," I answered as I hopped off my horse. "And an hour before that I didn't either," I continued as I tightly held the leather reigns of my horse. "And an hour before that I was here when you asked me: 'Go see if Maria's home,' " I finished and faced John. My horse let out a nicker.

"So will you do me a favor John," I continued as I tilted my head slightly to the right. "Stop asking questions which you know the answer of," I fake smiled. I immediately dropped the smile and turned around, heading for the stall. I heard a quick scoff behind me.

Rolling my eyes, I continued the walk.

Y/N's P.O.V

"Is this your card?" Lafayette stated as he showed me the card I had chosen. "WHAT?!" I yelped as I studied the card. I snatched it from his hand and looked at it intensely. "Dude! How did you do that?" I asked with a bright smile on my face. "Good Frenchmen keep their secrets away from the other henchmen," Lafayette rhymed with a chuckle and grabbed the card from my hand.

"But I'm a woman," I argued back. "And henchwomen," He added with a chuckle.

Suddenly, Laurens entered the tent. He glanced at me, groaned and landed head-first into his bed. "Hey, Laurens!" I greeted and waved frantically. "Can you shut up?" He asked me, still laying down. "I'm afraid I can't reach the top of the tent. So I can't shut up," I sadly stated and looked at the ground.

Lafayette began to giggle in French.

"I can feel my brain cells rotting," Laurens hissed and turned his back towards us. "Maybe you need to get some fresh air," I suggested with a smile. "Maybe you need to f*ck off," He suggested in a mumble.

I was about to open my mouth when Lafayette began to wildly shake his head 'no'. I looked back at Laurens and sighed. I was determined to figure out why Laurens hated me so much. I took a deep breath and stood up from Lafayette's bed. I marched towards him and stood still at the edge of his bed.

Then I proceeded to jump on him. I went horizontal on him so I could still see his face. "MOTHERF*CKER!" Laurens wheezed as I frowned. "Laurens, communication is key," I started as he furiously gritted his teeth. "SINCE WHEN ARE YOU, MY PSYCHIATRIST?!" He yelled at me as he tried to get me off. "And so I need to ask," I continued. "Why do you hate me?" I asked curiously.

"YOU DUMB PIECE OF SH*T! GET OFF ME!!" He demanded as he began to push me up. I held onto his sheets. "Answer me and I'll get off you," I explained with a smile. He hissed at me and rolled to his left making both of us fall off. "Because I don't trust you with a strand of my hair," He huffed and got up. I rubbed my head and looked up at him. "Now if you'll excuse me," He sneered. "I'm going to make myself useful," He barked and left.

I exhaled. "John is just being a whiny pute," He sighed and helped me up. "I probably did something wrong," I figured as he shook his head. "It's probably the war, mon amie," He groaned. "Don't worry about it," He reassured me.

I nodded. He patted my shoulder. "I need to go. If the rest finds Maria, I'll see you soon," He smiled and left. I sighed and turned around. I bounced on my leg and hopped to Lafayette's bed. I plopped down with an exhale.

I sat there for a while until Alexander stormed in. "F*cking congress," He mumbled before he saw me. "Hey, Y/N," He greeted quickly and sat down beside me. "Is John being a better person?" He asked me. "He's trying," I lied. He exhaled. "Maybe you just need to get to know him better when he's in a looser environment." He pondered aloud.

He counted on his fingers and mumbled quietly. "An elite group of soldiers is going to the winter's ball," He began as he looked back at me. "The guest list is full, but I think I can get you in if I budge," He continued with a smirk. "So. Wanna come?" He asked.

"Oh, sure! I'll grab that ball and throw it through a hoop quicker than anyone else in the game! I mean, I've never played because I wasn't allowed to. But it looks easy enough! Is this a winter event or something like that? It sounds awesome-"

"No, Y/N, no. Not that kind of ball," Alexander sighed. "A ball as in a party," He re-explained. "Oh!" I nodded. "Sure!" I answered. "I'll make sure there'll be a place for you," He reassured with a smile. "Awesome!" I clapped. "And I'll make sure John gets to know you better," he added.

"How?" I asked. "Don't worry about it," He stated, covering his smirk with his hand.
