"What's your name?" The desk person asked when I got to the high school
"Railey Saeki," I said
"Here you go," She said handing me a schedule and a map
"Thank you" I said walking away I looked at the schedule and where the classes are "looks like I'll be in that building most the time" I whispered pointing to the building that was on the far goth side of the campus "then I need to go this way" I said heading to the right. It was a walk from this building to the building I was supposed to be in 'couldn't they make this easier?' I thought out of breath as I'm halfway to there when I got to the building I looked again at my schedule "first floor to the left" I said walking that way looking at the signs above the doors until I found mine. When I walked into the classroom I was nervous, everyone had their friends already and I'm the outsider. I took a seat by the window toward the front before someone approached me
"You're the new girl right?" A girl with glasses and hair cut short asked me
"Yeah um who are you?" I asked nervously
"Oh I'm Akari nice to meet you," she said
"I'm Railey"
"Hm Railey that's an odd name," she said
"Akari, are you being mean to the new girl already?" A boy asked walking over here he was taller than her with long brown hair and built looking
"No I was just saying I've never heard a name like her Riko," Akari said
"Well, it probably sounds strange because it's not a normal name for Japanese people. I'm originally from America" I told them shyly
"Ah," they both said
"So then did you move here?" Riko asked
"I did, my parents are back in America while I'm staying with a family friend," I lied to them
"Oh that's cool," Akari said
"Everyone take your seat. We have a new student joining us today will you please stand up and say your name please" the teacher said nervously I stood up
"Um hi my name is Railey Saeki," I said quickly before sitting down
"Thank you, now everyone pulls out their books" He started with the lesson for today.
Eventually, it was lunch time, I opened my lunchbox thinking about today so far 'it's different here than back at home' I thought
"Hey what do you have there?" Akari asked pointing to what was inside my lunchbox
"Um I don't really know I just kind of threw stuff together" I shyly smiled taking out the rice ball I had
"So how's your first day so far?" Riko asked while eating his food
"It's different," I said taking another bite
"How So?" They both asked
"Well here we usually stay in one room while in America in high school and middle school you would go to your classes" I explained
"What's a middle school?" Akari asked
"It's like a junior high school here but teach grades 6-8," I told her
"Man it really is different," Riko said taking a mouthful bite of his rice
"Toldcha," I said finishing my rice ball
"Hey, afterschool how about we show you around?" Akari asked excitedly
"Um sorry I actually have something to do back at the house," I told her
"Aw man how about tomorrow?" She asked
"I don't know, grandma should be coming home from surgery real soon so I'll be taking care of her the next few days," I told them
"Ah, do you have a phone?" She asked I nodded "I'll put my number in it just In case you are free someday," she said I opened it and gave it to her. She put her number in then gave it back
"I'll give you my number too just So you'll have someone else besides this crazy" Riko said taking my phone
"Hey, I'm not crazy. If anyone is crazy it's you Riko!" Akari scolded slapping his arm
"Ouch"
"Don't be such a wimp" she said
"So what about you guys don't you have something you do?" I asked them
"I'm co-captain of the soccer team here" Riko proudly said
"I'm currently involved in several clubs here," Akari said
"Hm seems you two are busy" I replied
"Eh we both are mostly bored if we aren't doing anything" Akari added laying her head down before the bell rang
"Lunch is over," Riko said getting up and walking to his seat. I put up my lunchbox and faced the front while waiting for the teacher.
Afterschool I went straight to the hospital to see how grandma was doing "Hi, is Satomi still here? She had surgery and was staying in room 2104" I told the lady at the desk
"Um no she checked out an hour ago hon," she said after that I sprinted out of the hospital and straight back home. I opened up the door to see grandma laying on the couch
"Grandma are you alright?" I asked her slinging my stuff down walking over to her. She slightly opened her eyes turning her head toward me
"Oh hi Railey," she said
"Are you feeling alright?" I asked her again
"Yeah just a bit tired," she said moving around before almost falling causing me to grab her
"Let's get you to bed," I said carrying her to her bedroom and laying her down on the bed "are you hungry? Do you want anything?" I asked her
"Some soup would be nice," she said I nodded and walked in the kitchen to fix some soup. Later that evening I decided to sleep in her room making sure she would be alright.
