Calum

It was never in my plans to become a father at sixteen. It was also not in my plans to become a single father. It definitely changed a lot for me and now four years later I'm finally living on my own trying to take care of my daughter.

I have my little girl Eden Grace who is the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. Shes four, turning five in April. She looks mostly like me besides her mother's green eyes and she's also got an extremely outgoing personality.

Her mother and I were never super serious, we started hooking up at parties, then when she got pregnant we dated for about a year, and then she cheated on me and we broke up. Neither of us wanted her to get an abortion even though she really didn't want a kid. So, I told her I'd be there through her pregnancy and then when she cheated on me and Eden was a few months old I agreed to have her majority of the time. It shocked everyone, bring the 'punk' in high school no one thought I could do it, they still don't.

So, I have Eden majority of the time and Amber usually sees her every other weekend unless something comes up.

I hung out with the wrong kids in high school and once Amber fell pregnant after one drunken night I dropped out of school and my main focus was on her until she gave birth and then it was all on my sweet angel, Eden.

"Daddy." I heard Eden whine as she walked into my bedroom. It was roughly 6:30am and about the time that she usually comes into my room every morning.

"What's wrong darling?" I mumbled while lifting her onto my bed, calling her by her nickname that I always called her.

"Can we cuddle?" She asked crawling under my blanket. Her hair was a tangled mess and she was holding on to a stuffed bunny that my sister got for her when she was born.

"Of course Eden. Are you feeling alright?" I asked rubbing her back.

"I'm sleepy daddy." She said through a yawn and I chuckled.

"That's what happens when you refuse to go to sleep at bedtime." I pointed out and she whined.

We stayed in bed for another half an hour before it was time to actually start getting ready for the day.

"Come on darling let's get you ready." I sighed picking her up out of the bed.

"No daddy." She whined trying to get out of my arms.

"We've got to Eden. Daddy has to work today and you have school." I said bringing her into her boring colored bedroom. There's only so much you can do in an apartment.

"I'm not going." She pouted and then crossing her arms.

"Come on Eden, it won't be that bad." i sighed as i fought and dressed her in a long sleeved blue dress with ruffles on it and some thick gray tights.

"No one likes me daddy." She whined. "Please? Can I stay with you pretty please?" She begged, tears forming in her eyes.

"Let's go do your hair." I said taking her hand and walking into the bathroom, ignoring her comment. It made my heart ache for her, but I can't not work and i can't bring her with me, that's just how things go.

I sat her on the counter and brushed through her tangled hair.

"Careful daddy!" She snapped as I brushed out the knots.

"I'm trying darling. I'm almost done." I frowned. I finished brushing and then put her hair into a half pony tail since it's the easiest thing I know how to do. "Alright let's brush your teeth." I told her starting to brush her teeth.

"Daddy I have to go potty." She whined pushing me out of the bathroom.

"Okay, okay. Daddy will go get ready and then you can have some breakfast." I said.

I got myself dressed and then packed Eden's bag with some food, extra clothes, her blankie, and a sweatshirt. I then made my way into the kitchen with her and sat her down in a chair.

"How's cereal sound this morning?" I asked, grabbing a bowl and some cereal.

"I want pancakes." She stated and I sighed. One thing this girl was known for is her attitude that she uses to try and get her way.

"I don't have time to make you pancakes this morning Eden." I sighed. "I've got cereal or you can have a banana." I bargained with her.

"Pancakes daddy." She said again crossing her arms while I sighed looking at her. "I want pancakes."

"We don't have time for this today." I said again, setting a bowl of cereal down in front of her. I watched as she narrowed her eyes at me and pushed the bowl away from her. "Alright, then no breakfast for you." I said picking her up out of her chair and throwing a banana in her bag since I obviously can't just not feed my child.

"Daddy!" She whined, trying to get out of my arms. "Put me down."

I ignored her attempts to get away and kept walking into the other room to get her ready.

I grabbed her coat off of the back of the sofa and put it on her and then grabbed her bag off of the floor and walked out of our apartment and to my car and buckled her into her car seat.

"You're going to be good today, right darling?" I said driving to the school.

She just whined in response, almost crying.

"I'm serious Eden, you need to behave." I said looking back at her after I parked the car. "What's going on?"

"Nothing daddy." She sniffled, rubbing her eyes. "You're mean.

"Eden." I sighed.

"Daddy." She said back.

"I wasn't being mean, but you need to listen." I told her. "Come on, let's go." I frowned climbing out and then grabbing her hand and her stuff and walking in.

"Ahh good morning miss Eden, and how are you today?" One of the teachers said greeting my daughter.

"I'm good miss Katie." Eden smiled up at her.

"Are you her father." someone said from beside me. She was focused on my tattooed arms for sure and eventually her eyes met mine.

"Uh, yes that's me." I said handing Eden's bag to her. "Is there a problem?" I asked, kind of annoyed at the way her eyes were judging me.

"No, I just think your tattoos are inappropriate." she shrugged. "I'm Emily."

"Calum." I said staring at her. She had dark brown hair and blue eyes. Her skin was pale, with freckles.

I didn't say anything else, instead i just walked back to my car. I didn't have the time to listen to some judgmental mother go on about how tattoos are bad or how they make me a bad parent.
