(Y/n)'s POV

I watched at the elevator, bored out of my mind. I let out a yawn, snuggled up in my chair. I had given up on the idea of reading, something my father and I used to do a lot, and was now just sat there.

I knew I could go out if I wanted, but I didn't want to go out alone and inviting Dan just didn't seem right at the moment. It was his birthdays a few days, I had only learned about this just 2 days ago because the little twat didn't tell me, and things had been sort of awkward and quiet lately. Ever since my whole leaving it had been distant and I suppose I couldn't really complain. Occasional remark here and there, but complete silence otherwise. I guess the whole 'friends' thing was kind of bullshit. I sighed. All day I had just claimed that I was too afraid to go out alone, but everyone knew that was bullshit. I was raised as a pretty tough girl, I knew how to fight, and I'd like to think I'm relatively intelligent. My dad didn't raise a wimp.

I still didn't want to go out of course, so I just headed down to the lower level, looking through some of the rooms before settling on the pool room. I knew that later today there were going to be guests around for dinner and dancing for Dan's birthday so I wasn't allowed in the ballroom while they were getting ready. I picked up a pool stick, tightening my pony tail and setting up to take a shot.

"And this is--" I glanced up at the doorway where Dan was stood beside an old man and a younger woman. She was relatively beautiful, sort of like a magazine model, and seemed like the gold digger type. I looked to the old man again. Definitely.

"Ah, well, this is the pool table, and this is (y/n)," Dan said.

"Who are you?" The old man asked rudely.

"I'm one of Mr. Howell's associates, who are you?" Dan shot me a look and I outstretched a hand to the old man. He didn't take it.

Ass.

"I didn't know you were hiring women," he said, his fat nose upturned. Oh so he couldn't talk to me.

"She's a good worker, so her gender doesn't phase me Mr. Beckmen," Dan said and I smirked, sinking into my hip. At the moment I was quite glad at the outfit I had picked out as it was quite casual and a little dirty. It was always nice to be seen as a hard worker. "Why don't we head upstairs and Miss (l/n) can get ready for the gala," Dan hinted.

I sighed and followed them out of the room and up into mine. So much for my pants day. I glanced at my bed where a box rested on my bed with a note from Phil saying that Sophie had picked it out for me. God I loved that woman. Shoes rested beside it as well.

Shoes rested beside it as well
