Hi babeys

Dan's POV
"Good morning sunshine," I said, seating myself in Jeanie's rocking chair. She stumbled sleepily to where I sat and crawled to seat herself in my lap. There was a gentle quietness to the room and I swallowed.
"Where's mommy?" She asked and I ran my hand along her back.
"Mommy has to leave us."
"When is she coming back?" She asked and I let out a gentle sigh.
"I'm afraid she won't."
"Why?"
"She was very sick," I replied, rocking us back and forth. "She didn't want to leave, but it was something she had to do."
"How come she didn't say goodbye?" She glanced up at me.
"She didn't want to worry you is all," I said. "So it's just you and me now."
"That's okay," she said simply.
"It is?"
"I can name a worm after her," she said and I laughed, letting out a shuddering breath. "So...mommy is dead?"
I paused, not wanting to say it out loud and half shocked that Jeanie knew what that meant. She was always smarter than I thought.
"Yes, but she's always here," I said, still holding Jeanie while the people downstairs took away her body. It was harder and harder to understand and comprehend what had happened. "Always here."
We sat there for a long time before I stood, still holding her. We headed downstairs just as they were driving away to have her prepared. I had so much to do now and so little time.
"Can we make pancakes?" Jeanie asked. I glanced at her and pressed my lips together softly.
"Yeah, we can," I said. I pulled out the ingredients, putting them in the bowl. "Here, you mix them up." She took the whisk in her small hands, stirring the batter while sat on the counter. I started cooking and flipping them, setting the done ones on a plate to the side. I glanced around with a hot pancake on my spatula to see a hand reaching up over the counter to pinch a piece off one of the pancakes. "What are you up to missy?"
"Nothing!" I heard her squeal and I scooped her up.
"Little thief." She giggled and squealed in my arms and I smiled, setting her in her chair. I brought the finished food to the table, making sure to shut off the stove. I cut up her pancake for her, letting her put syrup on her own plate. She happily ate with sticky syrup cheeks and I smiled, taking her to wash up when we were done.
We were going to be just fine.

"Lillies please," I said, the florist nodding and putting the order on their clipboard. I had a sleepy Jeanie laid against my side, my arm solidly beneath her to hold her against me.
"There's a girl named Lily in my class," she hummed, recalling her reception class.
"Are you friends? Perhaps you'd like to have her over."
"She didn't invite me to her birthday party," she said, pouting.
"Anyone else?" I asked. She shook her head no and I sighed. It seemed that Jeanie wasn't making very good friends and she hadn't seen Molly for far too long. "How about Molly comes by?"
"Okay," she said, humming. I set her down to ring PJ or Sophie when there was a knock at the door. I headed for it, ushering Phil in when I recognized it was him.
"You need any help with the whole funeral?"
"No, not so far," I replied.
"I think I'm going to apply this coming week," he said and I widened my eyes. "They've been trying to recruit people for a while."
"I know, but so soon?"
"It is, but I can't put it off any longer, the army needs people," he said. I pressed my lips together and we shared a hug.
"Come back in one piece."
"Will do," he replied, smiling.
"Uncle PHIL!" Jeanie leapt up into his arms. "Are you here to play?"
"Well sure! What game do you suggest?" I smiled, watching her tug him along, rambling. I set my hands along the counter, letting out a sigh of relief. I shuddered at the feeling that she was still here with me, smiling at Jeanie sprawled on the floor.

Phil placed a hand on my shoulder and I stood above (y/n)'s body. I could picture her when she first stepped into my office, on her doorstep while it was raining, skimming the hallways in the evening with a soft smirk on her face, the angry look she gave me when she was jealous, the top of her head when she rest her cheek along my shoulder.
I felt a tear drip down my cheek and Jeanie squeezed my hand tightly, crying herself. I had yet to see her cry until now and I picked her up into a hug.
"Here." Phil took her from me and away from the casket. I brushed back her hair, pressing a kiss to her forehead. She was cold and I could hardly step away from the ghastly sight of her.
But she looked at peace.
"I'll take good care of Jeanie and I'll miss you. Hopefully you'll miss us too. You will won't you? Deal?" I asked. She of course couldn't answer, but I could imagine her firm hand shaking mine.
Deal.
Yeah she's dead, I didn't want to tell you guys the story was ending soon since that gave away when I was going to do it, but yeah. There you go.
