(Y/n)'s POV

I laid on top of Dan, my legs in between his with a full feeling in my stomach. My eyes were gently shut and my head rest against his gentle heartbeat. The sun cast down rays of warmth on my back as his fingers lightly traced along my back.

"Want to go swimming now?" He asked quietly and I hummed in response, curling up against his body. "I'll take that as a no."

Our combined weight made the lounge chair out on the deck dip, cool lake breeze brushing over the both of us. His arm bent at the elbow to scrunch up to his chest and take my hand which had been resting on his collar bone.

"You sure? We put swimsuits on for nothing," he said. I opened my eyes.

"That sounds like an excuse just to get me off you," I said, planting my toes in the wood. There was a wonderful platformed deck that had a set of stairs leading down to the lake shore which is where we had been resting.

"Oh never," he replied, padding by and planting a firm kiss on my temple. He headed for the stairs and I playfully pouted. I followed him, rolling my shoulder slightly. Getting up had caused an ache. It was still healing and I would need to see a doctor soon. Perhaps after vacation.

I yawned, fanning my face as I followed him down the stairs. It must be warmer down by the shore. I was feeling rather feverish.

"Dan?"

"Yes?" He glanced back at me and I paused, finding it a struggle to walk across the sand.

"I don't feel well," I said. He approached me, placing a hand on my forehead.

"You are a little warm, but not fever warm. Are you getting sick?"

"I don't know," I said, crossing my arms across my body out of discomfort.

"Why don't we get inside with the air conditioning," he said, offering me a hand and he helped me trek back up the stairs. He sat me down in a comfortable chair and went to grab my pajamas. I began to sweat, realizing I was having a hot flash of some sort. Was it sunstroke? "(Y/n)? Oh my."

"What?"

"You look red, very red," he said, going to get a cool towel. I shed my swimsuit and out on my pajamas, not particularly caring if Dan saw me. I was too hot. He returned and placed it across my forehead and I relaxed back into the chair.

"You were fine just a minute ago."

"I think it's just a hot flash or something," I said. "I don't feel sick." He hummed and watched me with concern. After a few minutes I felt the spell pass and I laid comfortably in the chair.

"It's gone," I breathed.

"Really?" He asked, taking the cloth from my head. My face was still red and I could tell, but I felt much better.

"I must've just gotten hot outside. We laid in the sun for a while."

"Alright. Shall we see a doctor still?" He asked. I glanced to him and shook my head.

"Yes, my shoulder needs looking at anyways," I replied. He nodded. "I can take myself."

"I was figuring we could leave early anyways," he said.

"Why?"

"Well, I don't really care where we are as long as I'm with you. You need to fix your shoulder and home sounds better anyways," he said.

Home.

"Yes, I'd like that."

~~~
We returned home later that night and slept in our own beds, my temperature back to normal but my shoulder still aching.
"I'm headed to the doctor," I said.
"Shall I come?" Dan asked, glancing up from his desk and I shook my head no.
"I'll be fine. Just hope I don't come back with an addition to my body like a sling," I said. "I'd rather not."
"Alright, I hope it's all good." I nodded and walked down the stairs and to the garage. A car was waiting for me there and a long drive to the doctors as well. I soon dribbled my heel against the floor in the waiting room; the even longer wait to be seen by a doctor was agonizing.
"Mrs. Howell?" I stood and followed them back, seating myself on the exam table. "What seems to be the problem?"
"My shoulder. I fell and hit it and it's been aching," I replied. He nodded and placed a hand on my shoulder blade, rolling it. I felt a soft pop and I winced.
"It seems you've been walking around with a dislocated shoulder. High pain tolerance?" He asked.
"Yeah...did you just pop it back into place." He nodded and I widened my eyes. "You can wear this sling while you sleep for the next 2 weeks to make sure you don't roll onto it, but the dislocation was minute. Just a slight shift."
"One more thing." He handed the sling to me which I set aside. The doctor nodded for me to continue. "I had this terrible hot flash yesterday. I felt terribly hot and rather weak." His eyes narrowed.
"We could do a few tests to make sure it's not nothing," he said. I nodded and he assisted me through a few tests. "I'll be back in a second." I sat impatiently for him to return. The door opened up and the doctor walked in with a few sheets of paper. "Alrighty lets take a look."
He flipped the sheets open and scanned over them for a moment his eyes stopping. I peered curiously and rather nervously at him.
"What?"
"Is your husband here?" He asked.
"No..why? Is it bad?"
"No, no it's not bad. We've just found something else."
"What?"
"Mrs. Howell you're pregnant."
My lips parted slightly and I felt all the air in my lungs suddenly force its way out of my mouth. I placed gentle fingers to my lips.
"10 or 11 days to estimate."
How could this happen? I had no idea if Dan even wanted a baby yet. The marriage had been rushed, but a child? That was something even bigger to be rushing. I placed a hand to my stomach.
"The first trimester is the most difficult trimester. I'll give you a specialist's number and you can discuss it further with her. It was most likely the cause of the hot flash."
"Thank you," I murmured. He wrote up a number on the papers and handed them to me. I stood with weak knees, still in shock. All the precautions taken weren't fully insured, but the immediate shock had shaken me.
I returned to the car, now aware that the full feeling in my stomach had been a baby all this time. I ran a hand along the band of my dress, suddenly beginning to panic. How would I tell him? Dan may have wanted to get married, but the idea of him not wanting a child yet made me feel ill. Tears brimmed at my eyes and I sucked in a breath, letting it out shakily to keep my composure.
I hesitantly moved my feet forward to the elevator when we arrived back home, the ride suddenly not long enough. I trudged up the stairs, knocking lightly on his office door before peeking my head inside.
"Ah how did it go?"
"Well," I swallowed, holding up a sling. "For sleep."
"Ah so you did come back with an addition."
"Yeah."
And one more.
