Hello.
Enjoy~
(Y/n)'s POV
"I understand that Mr. Kowalski, and frankly, I don't care as much as you think I do. Get the money in, and you're protected. I don't care if you can't make the deal, make it happen," I said, placing the phone back up against the office wall. I collapsed in one of Dan's chairs, my sides aching and screaming at me for overworking myself yet again.
"Truly, you must stop doing that," I glanced up at the door, Dan leaning against its frame.
"Don't you think I know that?"
"I don't want you in that hospital again (y/n), besides I didn't give the nicest goodbye to the nurses and doctors," he said, clearing his throat. I smiled and he sat down in the chair beside me. "Really, your health is important, and it's now a rule that you can't over work yourself."
"Oh really?"
"Yes really, or you'll be punished."
"What?"
"Fired. Get your mind out of the gutter Ms. (l/n)," Dan said and I shook my head, exhaling heavily. Breathing was not an easy task towards the end of the day, especially after the extra work load I inflicted upon myself. The office was slightly bigger, renovated during the repair of the penthouse, and I quite liked the view from the window it provided, so I had been spending a lot of time here and in my room.
"It's not in the gutter, I only couldn't hear you. Perhaps it's you with the dirty mind," I posed and he glanced over the bridge of his nose at me.
"Perhaps."
I quite liked the two of us getting back into the groove of things, and this time I certainly enjoyed the flirting. It was nice to see him without concern or worry in his eyes and if lust must replace it, I could deal. I had also gotten over the whole Andrea thing, especially after seeing Dan so broken down for a while. These had been the longest 3 weeks of my life. I picked up a paper on his desk, neatening it.
"You really must be doing something with your hands at all times," he commented.
"Pardon?"
"Whether it be shuffling papers or something else, you're always doing things with your hands," he said.
"Something else...like what?" I asked and I could see his eyes glint slightly. Sometimes I could feel a sense of false security in these moments, as if the transition to 'normal' was forced and faked, but there would always be that new concerned side of Dan, one that was open to sharing, that would peek through. So it truly wasn't back to the usual, but instead it had settled into a new normal, a much better one at that.
"What are you suggesting?"
"Oh nothing, I was only wondering, since you said all the time. Only wondering what you yourself were insinuating," I posed, my voice dipping. "We could discuss over scotch."
"Splendid idea," he replied, turning away to the cabinet behind his desk.
"You know I love the way you talk sometimes, so posh," I said, "it's delightful to listen to."
"Decadent language to savor Ms. (l/n)."
He passed me a crystal glass, and I swirled it around with the delicate grip of only the pads of my fingers.
"I needed this," I said, sipping, "medication in its finest."
"I suppose," he said, seating himself back in the chair beside me rather than closing himself off behind the desk. A few glasses later and I felt numbed, the ache in my lungs had subsided into a dull feeling that only weighted me down in my chair. I placed a chin in my hand, looking over Dan who had finished one more glass than me, his cheeks tinged pink and his eyelids lazy. He was nice to watch, subtle nuances about him that could honestly just drive you crazy, or rather drive me crazy. Emotions of yore tugged at the back of my head and my heart strings as I watched the slight curl in his lips move as he talked. Before Andrea had ever come along, feelings like these—resting in the hollows of my chest to make me feel whole—would always come along. Feelings of love that pounded at my chest one moment or sent a buzz through my body the next.
