Hello

(Y/n)'s POV
I had Jeanie laid across my chest, rocking gently in one of the rocking chairs on our porch. There wasn't a single sound except the meek Spring wind sweeping across my ankles. I had her head in the crook of my neck, her arms curled around me in a hug. There was a book strewn aside, hanging half off the table. I shut my eyes, Jeanie rising with my chest. It was remarkable seeing how she was progressing.
I yawned slightly, feeling goosebumps run across my arms and legs, wrapping around my torso. My cheeks were slightly warm and the rest of my body was cool. I loved the gently weight on my chest and the soft breaths we shared. I glanced out to the street, my eyes scanning across the pavement that disappeared into the trees.
There was a quaint town just a mile or two North of here. All the building were rather old and the people were nice. It was a nice change of pace from the rude and bustling city. I was beginning to realize how out of place I was there. I could play the part, but this was really where I belonged. I stood carefully, shifting an arm to hold more firmly underneath Jeanie.
I strolled back into the house, leaving only the screen door closed so the house smelled like the big oak trees outside. I numbly climbed up the stairs, laying Jeanie in her bed. I glanced around her freshly decorated room. It was a banana yellow per her request. Dan had told me that when he asked her what her favorite color was for the room she had answered 'nana' which also happened to be her favorite fruit.
There were a few things hung up on her walls and some stuffed animals, all her clothes packed away in drawers. Everything had room for her to make it her own. I headed to our room where Dan was sleeping peacefully. He must be tired putting so much work into this place. I headed back down the stairs after pressing a kiss to his forehead.
It seemed that I was the only one who was awake.
I seated myself with a glass of water, the balls of my feet planted firmly against the bar connecting the legs of my stool. I placed my elbows along the counter, holding my head gently in my hands. I had a slight headache and I was exhausted and sleep was really all I wanted.
I was just afraid to fall asleep.
I licked my lips, watching out the window above the sink. My chest caved inwards so I sat hunched and I let the air pass through my lungs, though it hardly felt like I was breathing. I began to wonder just how this had happened to me. It just didn't seem fair to take so much from me when all I had done was try to live, try to give.
I finished the water out of my glass, slipping it into the sink so I could wash it later. I headed back up the stairs to sink into bed beside Dan. I laid my head against the pillow, my eyes wide open. Now that I gave myself the opportunity to sleep, I couldn't even more.
I turned onto my side, my back turned to Dan's sleeping figure. I shut my eyes, letting my mind settle, but I couldn't even fathom falling asleep now. PJ and Sophie were coming tomorrow and I think they were bringing Phil. There was nothing I could do today. I turned around to face Dan, studying his face.
His mouth was slightly open as he slept with his face gently smushed into the pillow. His hair was a disheveled mess and he looked older. Tired. I remembered the gentle, baby faced guy that would show up on my doorstep or outside my room. He could be intimidated sometimes, but I eventually found out what a sweetheart he really was. Now he just looked so...tired.
I ran my thumb over a faded worry line at the side of his eye, where his cheek met the bottom of it. He didn't stir, not even when my fingers ran through his curly hair.
I couldn't look much better.
I retrieved my hand and scooted downwards to lay in his chest. He shuffled finally and placed a warm arm around me to hug me into him. I laid peacefully beside him for a while, wishing I could stay here forever.
I knew I couldn't.
It was a nice sentiment though.
I shut my eyes, feeling myself drift off. I could only hope to wake up later. It was obviously something that could very well happen. I could feel the heat from Dan's body lull me to sleep and away from those thoughts.
