(Y/n)'s POV
My hand clasped discreetly around Dan's, the mass of people swallowing the soft gesture in black. I stood out most definitely, not only in color but in sparkle. We slithered through people, my legs brushing together tightly in my dress.
The casino was large and packed with rich looking gentlemen and their even richer looking wives. They all clung onto each other proudly, even though most would spend the car ride on opposite sides, glaring out opposing windows. This was not a place to come a bachelor, unless you were a respectable one, rather than the rowdy guys in drug stores waiting for a young woman to pick up for the evening, and sipping a soft drink while friends around clapped each other on the back proudly as they shared last night's tales of skirts high from the jumping sock hop.
This place, rather, was sleek and refined, smoke filtered through rich cigarettes hanging over the crowd like a fog. One could still see the ornate paintings on the ceilings and walls through the wisps of smoke and people. Soft chatter and the soft padding of chips against felt drifted through the room, rather than bright and flashy casino machines you usually paid a penny for.
An occasional eruption of haughty laughter would pop up from a table and settle quickly, the faux sound dying out into the lofty pleasantries between entrepreneurs. Dan and I sat at a small table, meant for holding crystal glasses of scotch or wine while one watched roulette tables spin.
I turned my focus slightly to the ornate curvature of the wood and marble. I tried my hardest not to let my mouth part and glance around like a kid watching through glass at the penny candy. It would hardly be professional.
"Howell! Great to see ya! Here's to wipe clean on some blackjack?" I glanced up, recognizing the sweet facial features of Mr. Sugg, the one I'd met a while back.
"Wonderful to see you again (y/n)," he tipped his head, and pecked the back of my hand. I smiled and nodded back at him, watching Dan out the corner of my eye. He looked just as jealous as the first time, that I knew would never change. I linked pinkies with him, and he seemed almost reluctant to do so.
"What a beautiful place," I commented.
"Indeed, and I hear there's dancing in the ballroom," Joe said, glancing to Dan.
"We should dance later," I suggested, tilting my head towards Dan as he eased into the gentle grip of our fingers.
"We should," he said. I picked up a glass from the tray buzzing by, seeing that it was scotch on the rocks. I handed it to Dan, knowing that's how he liked his.
"We really should be going now, we'll see you around Joe," I said, tugging lightly against interlocked fingers. We passed by Joe and headed to a poker table. There was a seat open, an older gentleman about to say something to Dan. Dan lightly pressed my shoulder down for me to sit, and I did, the older gentleman glancing at me.
