Chapter 19

"How long till we get there?" Baekhyun asks nervously from behind you.

"Just a few minutes." You reply, smiling as Chanyeol lightly squeezes your hand. 

"Good. I hate being out here." It's so weird to be walking this way again. You're walking to your old high school in a zombie apocalypse, hand in hand with Chanyeol. It sounds like something out of a fanfiction. The boys are relatively silent behind you, they're all on edge. Faint groans can be heard all around you and it's impossible to pinpoint where they're coming from. You hear a grunt and turn to see Sehun clutching his arm.

"Are you okay?" You ask.

"Yeah, the cut's just a little painful."

"Maybe Baekhyun didn't clean it enough. We can sort it out when we get there, okay?"

"Okay." He nods. Sehun looks a little pale, but you choose not to mention it. Baekhyun also seems rather stressed, but wouldn't anyone be in this situation?

"Over there, that's it!" You point to a building in the distance. It looks just like it used to. The school ground is surrounded by a tall metal fence. It's a good thing too since there are quite a few zombies hanging around that area. You spot the main gate, it's been heavily chained up. "I don't think we'll be able to get in through the gates..."

"Maybe we could climb them?" Chanyeol suggests.

"We can't go all at once. It would attract too much attention." Kai appears at your side.

"So... We just run up to it and climb it one by one?" Chen asks.

"Yes."

"So who's gonna go first?"

"I could go first, and then help you guys up." Kai suggests. 

"Alright. Good luck." You flash him a reassuring smile and crouch behind a bush with the others. Kai takes a few deep breaths before quietly making his way towards the fence. He moves quickly and smoothly, making no sudden movements. It's actually quite captivating to watch him. It feels like you're watching one of his dances. When he reaches the fence, he begins to climb. His strength makes it seems effortless and soon enough, he's on the other side. "Okay, you guys next." You turn to the other boys. One by one, they head over to the fence. There are a few close shaves. Baekhyun makes a bit of a racket trying to climb up with his frying pan, but Kai manages to help him over before any of the zombies notice. 

"You go next." Chanyeol glances at Sehun. Nodding, he runs towards the fence. His movements are jerky and rough, is his arm really that painful? Chanyeol seems just as concerned as you are, staring anxiously as Sehun begins to climb the fence. You catch a glance of his face, it's strained and pale. He definitely does not seem okay.

"He won't make it over on his own." You whisper in a panic. The boys on the other side of the fence try to help him up, but they're struggling.

"Damn it." Chanyeol grunts, dropping the guitar and running over to Sehun. 

"Watch out!" You whisper, forcing yourself not to shout. He grabs Sehun's foot and boosts him up over the fence, landing with a thud on the other side. Chanyeol turns to look at you from across the street. You gesture for him to climb up. He seems reluctant but starts to climb. Alright, my turn. You take a deep breath before leaping out from behind the bush. THUD. You collide with someone. "Chanyeol, I told you to-" It wasn't Chanyeol. Peeling skin, gargling groans... You stumble backwards, trying to suppress a scream. You begin to scramble away, but slip on what seems like rotting guts. Groaning, you push yourself up from the ground, but the guitar catches your eye. You glance at the boys, Chanyeol seems to know exactly what you're thinking. He stares at you intently, shaking his head. The zombie you ran into looks brutish but clumsy. If you were quick enough, you could run around him and grab the guitar. Taking one last look at Chanyeol who's desperately mouthing 'no', you make a run for the guitar. The zombie takes a swipe at you but you duck under it. You manage to grab the guitar strap and sling the case over your shoulders.

"Throw it over!" Lay calls as you sprint towards the fence. You chuck the guitar over the fence and Chen catches it. You try to climb up the metal fence but the guts on your shoes are making it nearly impossible. You can't get any grip. A hand appears above you.

"Come on!" Chanyeol reaches down towards you. You grab his hand and he pulls you up. He jumps down before helping you get down safely. "(y/n), the guitar wasn't worth the risk."

"But I got it didn't I? Plus, I didn't die."

"What if you did?" He grabs your wrist, looking at you worriedly.

"But I didn't."

"(y/n), I-"

"(y/n)? Is that you?" You freeze. "Oh my god."
