Chapter 34

"I love you."

Did he... He just said... Millions of thoughts rush through your head as he kisses you, making you feel slightly dizzy. When he finally pulls away, you're at a loss for words. He looks at you as if to say 'you don't have to say it back if you don't want to'. As your eyes wander down to his soft smile, a whisper escapes from your lips.

"I-"

"Guys," Baekhyun bursts in between the two of you, seemingly out of breath. "I was getting water with the others and I couldn't get through all the people-"

"Baekkie, just wait till the crowd dies down. There'll still be plenty of water." You try to brush him away, desperate to finish those words to Chanyeol.

"No, it's not that. I tried to go around and as I walked past Mr Lee's office I overheard them talking. I wasn't trying to be nosey but I just couldn't pull myself away."

"Well, what were they talking about?"

"Food. They said that with all people here and the groups that keep coming in, we'll be out food in less than a month."

"There are a lot of people here." Chanyeol looks around the hall, it's become so crowded that people have started to sleep in the classrooms too. "But they'll figure something out, they have to."

"I think they already have. They kept mentioning  "The Solution", do you think they're gonna make some of us leave?" Baekhyun asks, fidgeting with a loose thread on his sleeve.

"I doubt it. They wouldn't do that." Chanyeol shakes his head.

"But what if they do?"

"Well, we still have the house. If that doesn't work out, we have the ambulance. We'll find somewhere." This seems to calm Baekhyun slightly, but he continues winding the loose thread around his fingers.

"What about the people who don't have a place to go?"

"Look, they're not gonna throw us out." Baekhyun still doesn't seem convinced at your words. "How about we go talk to them?"

"Talk to them?"

"Yeah. We'll find out what's going on and what they're planning to do about it. Maybe we can help again."

"Are we all gonna go?"

"Maybe it's best if it's just the two of us. We don't wanna seem threatening. We just want to talk." You look to Chanyeol. "Are you alright staying here?"

"Yeah, I'll tell the others what's going on when they get back. If something happens, call for me okay?"

"Okay." And with that, you and Baekhyun head off towards Mr Lee's office. You look to Baekhyun for reassurance before knocking loudly. After a few moments with no answer, you knock again. "Are you sure you heard them talking in here?"

"I'm sure. Maybe they left?" He looks into the crowd, trying to spot anyone of importance. Slowly, you turn the handle and peek through a crack in the door. The room seems empty. 

"Come on." You whisper, slipping inside. Baekhyun follows without protest. The room looks fairly normal, a map of the town is spread across the table. In the corner, there are a few cans stacked up. So they get their own private food stash? "Look around."

"What for?" He asks curiously.

"Anything that might link to food or that solution you heard them talking about." Baekhyun eagerly starts to search through drawers as you look closely at the map. They seem to have marked supermarkets and other shopping areas with circles. One large area to the left of the map has been completely crossed out. Whilst trying to figure out which part of the town they crossed out, a black book laying on one of the chairs catches your eye. What's this? Flicking through it, most of the pages are filled with numbers. It's obviously to keep track of supplies. Then you find a long list of names. It fills up multiple pages. "I think this is everyone at the school." You mumble to yourself, catching Baekhyun's attention. You quickly find the names of yourself and all the other idols.
