Chapter 20

The voice is familiar, but it certainly doesn't belong to your mum. In fact, it's one of the people you least want to see right now.

"I can't believe it's you!" You sigh at their words, force a smile and turn around.

"Hello, Nick." Of all people that could be here, why did it have to be your ex? He grins widely as if he'd forgotten everything that happened in the past few days. He looks just like he used to, his mop of brown hair still hanging over his eyes, causing a shadow to fall over one side of his glasses like he has an eyepatch. His voice has deepened, but his figure is still as skinny as ever.

"I'm so glad you're okay." He steps forward and wraps his arms around you. Your body tenses up, feeling Chanyeol's confused gaze digging into you. Wriggling out of the hug, you turn to the boys.

"Guys, this is Nick. He's... An old friend."  You just can't seem to utter the word 'ex' when Chanyeol is right there.

"Yeah, we were very close." Nick puts an arm around your shoulder as if you're still what you used to be. "Wait... Are you guys from-"

"EXO, yeah." You say casually, holding back a proud grin.

"What? That's crazy! How did you..."

"It's a long story. They were playing at the O2 when it happened, and we escaped together."

"Good thing too, I don't know what we would have done without her." Kai grins. You take this opportunity to push Nick's arm from your shoulders and stand with the boys. Chanyeol stands so close behind you that you can feel his chest against your back. Before either of them can say anything, you cut in.

"We came here to find my mum, is she here?" Nick thinks for a moment before his eyes widen.

"Oh god, she's been so worried about you. It's all she's been able to talk about since she got here."

"So she's okay?" Hope sparks in your chest.

"Yes, she's going to be even better now that you're here. Come on!" He quickly holds his hand out, smiling brightly. Completely ignoring his hand, you turn to Chanyeol.

"Can you believe it? She's actually here!" You beam with happiness, looking up at him.

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go." Chanyeol's large hand envelops yours and you wait for Nick to lead the way. His eyes flicker between you and Chanyeol with a flash of jealousy. 

"This way." He smiles, but it seems a little less cheerful this time. Chanyeol keeps you close to him as you walk, with the other members murmuring curiously behind you. 

You get a strong feeling of nostalgia as you walk through the school grounds, remembering all the times you walked this way. There are a few people wandering around, but they all seem to stay away from the fence. Chanyeol squeezes your hand reassuringly as you get closer to the main building. Nick pushes open the doors to reveal a hall packed full of people. There are make-do beds scattered all around the place and most people are gathered in groups, having small conversations. Their expressions are much happier than you thought they'd be. Then again, they probably haven't spent a lot of time outside the school. Your group seems to gain quite a bit of attention. From the disappointed faces, it's obvious they were hoping it was their own friends or family. But some of the girls there just stare in awe, making it quite obvious that they're fangirls. You assume that the others are staring simply because of how incredibly gorgeous the boys are.
