Chapter 29

Day 12

You wake up to the feeling of a soft pair of lips against your neck. 

"Morning." You mumble through a smile, allowing Chanyeol to pull you in closer. He makes a great big spoon.

"Did you enjoy the performance?" His breath tickles your neck as he speaks.

"Yeah, you guys should do it more often." Slowly, you roll over so that you're facing him. "I should get up soon."

"You have patrol again?" He whines.

"Yeah. I'm with Lay today so it's not too bad." You glance over to Lay's sleeping bag, it's clear he isn't awake yet.

"I'm free all day."

"Lucky you." 

"So... I'm thinking of signing up to go and do runs." What? 

"Scavenging?" Chanyeol notices the concern on your face, bringing his hand up to gently stroke your cheek. 

"Yeah, I just wanna... get outside, you know?"

"Is it that boring here?"

"It's not that. I just don't feel like I'm doing as much to help as I could be." He does have a point. He's been stuck doing lunch duty for the past week, it's obvious he'd rather be on patrol like you.

"Well, if you're signing up then so am I."

"(y/n)..." 

"Come on, you know I can handle myself."

"I know but-"

"You always say that we should stick together. Plus, I doubt you'll last long out there without me." Chanyeol opens his mouth in protest but you cut him off before he can speak. "I have to go." You grab an empty water bottle and throw it at Lay. "Get up!" 

"Mmmm China sheep..." He mumbles, turning over in his sleeping bag. Narrowing your eyes at him, you grab one of Chanyeol's dirty socks and hold it over his nose. Lay takes one deep breath before bolting upright, coughing and spluttering. "I think I'm gonna be sick."

"Hey!" Chanyeol glares at him. Rolling your eyes at both of them, you grab some clean-ish clothes and get back under the covers with Chanyeol. Since the changing rooms are so far away from the hall, you usually just change under the cover of the blanket. The boys don't really bother though, it's like they don't care who sees what. Once you're done, you stand up and wait for Lay to join you. He soon appears by your side. 

"Ready?" Lay asks.

"Yeah."

"Wait!" Chanyeol scrambles out of bed. He pulls you close and kisses you softly before flopping back down onto the mattress.

"Idiot." You grin, shaking your head before following Lay out of the hall. The two of you grab some energy bars from the cafe as you head outside. 

"Do you think they'll find a cure?" You ask, taking a bite of your energy bar. Lay ponders the question for a moment.

"Well, they have to find one eventually. It could be a while though." He waves to the two guys at the fence, signalling that their shift is over. They look relieved. No one likes taking the night shift.

"But what if they don't?"

"Don't think so negatively, we'll be okay." He pats you on the shoulder.

"So, if things do go back to normal, what are your plans?"

"See? That's better. I was thinking of creating an album in English."

"Really? That's so cool. You're probably better at English than me at this point."
