Day 11

It's been a week since Sehun's funeral. The members are still clearly in pain but they've been busying themselves with chores around the school. At first, everything was a bit chaotic but once a system was worked out, things started running smoothly. There's quite a large stock of food from the school and people brought things from their own homes but you know it won't last for much longer. With no electricity, there are almost no working phones. There are a few battery-powered radios are used to get military updates. The last broadcast said that they'll soon start to do supply drops in major areas. This whole situation is on a much larger scale than you originally thought. A sort of leadership has been established, the head of the school along with a few adults that stepped up seem to have taken control. Sure, they're bossy but they've kept everything calm and controlled. They started to give out chores ranging from preparing food to patrolling the fence. They're still reluctant about sending people outside to look for supplies, but they're starting to send out small groups.

You're on patrol today. It's not very exciting, you're given an area of fence to watch and try to pick off the zombies that get too close. There haven't been any breaches yet. There have been a few "accidents" inside the building but those were dealt with pretty quickly. However, you have started to notice an increase of zombies lately, you think they're coming from the nearby city. A thud against the metal fence snaps you out of your thoughts. A particularly thin zombie is trying to pull itself through the gaps in the bars, but its chest seems to have gotten stuck. It looks like it hasn't eaten lately. Pulling out your screwdriver, you approach the pathetic sight. It lifts its head to look at you, one eyeball is hanging from its socket by a few strands of flesh. Grimacing in disgust, you plunge the screwdriver into its skull. Its head drops limply, the eyeball swinging like a pendulum. After freeing the screwdriver, you push the zombie out of the fence and it flops backwards.

"(y/n)!" You turn to see Suho jogging towards you. He's definitely been doing a lot better since he reconciled with Chanyeol.

"Hey." You sigh, wiping the sweat from your forehead. It's been a particularly hot day. "What's up?"

"It's my shift." He states as if it was obvious. Confused, you glance at the watch on your wrist. 9:32. Wait, didn't it say that like an hour ago? It takes a moment to realise that the second's hand isn't even moving. Of course, it's broken, what did you expect when you pulled it out from the bottom of some old box?

"Stupid watch," You mutter. "Alright, I'm gonna go shower then."

"Oh, Chanyeol wanted to talk to you by the way. I think he's on food service."

"Ah okay, thanks." You grin before heading towards the school. "Have fun!" You call over your shoulder. Hmm, shower first or Chanyeol? The smell coming from your shirt seems to make the decision for you. You head over to the girl's changing rooms, grabbing your bag of clothes along the way. You can never seem to get over the initial shock of the cold water, but it's certainly more bearable than the first few times. It's rather refreshing too. As you scrub the dirt and sweat from your skin, you begin to wonder how long you'll stay at the school. Surely, you can't stay there forever. If something happens, you can always go back to the house, but how long will that last? What happens when the food runs out? You're safe here for now, but in a world like this, you should always prepare for the worst. You splash some of the water on your face to distract yourself from the thoughts. Your mind wanders to other things. I wonder what Chanyeol wants to talk about. Things have been rather calm between the two of you. Chores have kept you both busy, but you always manage to get together for meals. The others are quite aware of your relationship now and they don't seem to mind. You're all very close now, like one big family.

CLUNK

The water shuts off. Huh?  You fiddle with the shower, trying to get it to turn on again. It won't. Why is everything breaking on me today? Grabbing your towel, you try the other showers. They won't turn on either. You rush to the sinks; nothing. It can't be- Not the water. Quickly changing into fresh clothes and stuffing the old ones into your bag, you hurry out of the changing rooms. You head straight for the cafeteria. Chanyeol's tall figure and fading pink hair make him easy to spot.

"Chanyeol!" You call, rushing over to him. His lips curl into a smile as he spots you.

"Heyyyyy." He grins, pulling you into his arms and planting a soft kiss on your forehead.

"We have a problem." You wriggle out of his embrace. "The w-"

"The water's stopped working!"  A guy yells from the kitchen.

"Yeah, that." Everyone seems to freeze. You were doing okay without electricity but without water...

"What are we gonna do?" A woman shrieks, causing an uproar in the crowd. It's a chaotic scene as people scramble for their water bottles. They're making so much noise, you wonder if it's audible from outside. This obviously draws attention from the other areas of the school, attracting more people.

"Stay close to me." Chanyeol says sternly, grabbing your hand.

"Calm down!" A voice shouts. It's the head of the school, Mr Lee.

"How can we possibly be calm? We've run out of water!" The crazed woman throws an empty water bottle at him. He pushes through the crowd and into the hall. You all follow him, stepping over beds and bags to find a spot to watch him from. He makes his way up onto the stage.

"Over there." You whisper to Chanyeol, pointing to Chen and Xiumin who are sitting across the room. He leads you over to the boys and you slump down on the beds next to them. "Did you hear what happened?"

"Well, it was being screamed through the hallways." Xiumin shrugs. More and more people pour through the doors and get to their bedding areas. Mr Lee waits until the room is relatively quiet before he starts to speak.

"Now, I understand that you're all worried about the current situation. The water has been cut off and we're lucky it's lasted this long. We have a large supply of water bottles which should get us through the next few days. However, we must start looking for a solution. We must remain calm, worrying won't fix anything. If you have any ideas, please speak to me. The water bottles will be rationed out from the cafeteria." And with that, Mr Lee steps down from the stage and into one of the back rooms. The room is filled with muttering, the people don't seem satisfied with that speech.

"So, where are we gonna get water from?" Chen asks, checking how much water he has left in his bottle.

"Well, there's a brook that runs through the town. Obviously, we'd need to clean it somehow, but it could be a sustainable source of water." You remember going paddling in it when you were younger, it brings a smile to your face.

"We'd also have to find a way to get the water to the school." Xiumin adds.

"I'm sure they'll figure something out soon. We'll be okay." Chanyeol says calmly, it's clear he's just trying to keep the group positive.

"If I knew the water was gonna cut out, I would have showered." Chen sniffs his shirt, scrunching his nose at the smell. "It's not too bad, right?" He leans towards Xiumin who takes one sniff before drawing back with a grimace.

"If by not too bad you mean you smell like a dead skunk, then yeah, it's not too bad."
