Sympathy

"Is he gonna be okay?" Hunk questioned. Everyone was gathered around the healing pod in the black lion.

   "Only time will tell if this body will accept Shiro's consciousness," Allura finally said. Ash approached the pod and placed a hand on the blue glass, letting out a small sigh. She toned out all further conversation; mentions of Earth, Shiro, she let it fly over her head as she focused on Shiro.

   That was one of the few moments she had with Shiro. She didn't want it to be the last. Ash was brought back to reality as a hand was placed next to hers on the pod. She turned to see Lance.

   "I can't begin, to imagine what you must be going through," he said. All attention turned to the two. "I mean, sure the rest of us can feel upset about this, Shiro was an amazing figure to all of us. But... he's your brother. That has to be.. just.."

   Ash cut him off with a hug. She nestled her face into the crook of his neck, and her fingers, out of habit, brought themselves up to lightly tug on his dark hair.

   Lance's arms tucked themselves around Ash's torso as he let out a long sigh, and a smile. Lance was right, it was hard. Ash never realized how much she needed Shiro until he left her with Adam. Ash sighed at the thought of Adam; she'd almost completely forgotten. A few other fond memories filled her mind, a few happy tears fell down her face.

Ash pulled away from Lance and turned back to the pod. She let out a sad laugh, more of a choking noise.

"I remember, one time," she began, wiping the tears away from under her eyes. "Me Adam and Shiro we're at some ice cream shop, and I told Adam, 'You're like the brother I never had,' and Shiro got so mad."

The group again offered her a sad smile as she continued.

"He was like, 'Hey! I'm your brother!' And I responded with 'Yeah but I've had you dummy.'"

Soft chuckles filled the room. Ash gazed at Shiro's face, with both happiness and sadness.

   Everyone went to go find a yellmor, they needed it to track a substance they'd be able to use to recharge the lions.

   It pained Ash to leave Shiro, but she knew there was nothing else more she could do. She gave Keith a quick goodbye hug, and left with the others.

   Ash found Keith staring up at a jet. A smile came across her face, and she jogged up to him. Once she reached him, she gave him a friendly punch on the arm.

   "Hey! I've been looking for you," she exclaimed. Keith offered her a small glance and smile before turning his attention back to the jet. Ash felt a hand on her shoulder, she turned to see Shiro smiling down at her and Keith.

   Ash listening intently as they talked about the jet. It's intent, what it's done, it fascinated her.

   "I want to help you Keith. You have potential. But what you decide to do with that potential is up to you."

   Ash smiled to herself. She silently leaned into Keith to give him a side hug. He tensed at first, but soon eased into it, wrapping his arm around Ash's shoulders.
