To your surprise, potions went a lot better than you expected. You thought the class would have consisted of Tom making crude remarks or threats like he did in the corridor, but other than the 'small talk' at the start of the lesson, you both did not say a word.
You felt a small pit in your stomach as you watched Tom pack his things and walk out of class, not even muttering a small goodbye. It shocked you slightly that you'd feel this way. You should've been repulsed and angry with the boy, but you just couldn't bring yourself to it.
It just didn't feel right, watching him walk away, acting like you barely existed. For some reason the arrogant boy had taken your interest, his whole persona seemed to intrigue you. He wasn't like other students, didn't care about looks or girls. His only focus seemed to be academic, which was truly was surprising for a boy your age. You wondered to yourself if it was just his damned good looks but decided against it. He radiated a cold and authoritative aura which would intimidate most but it just beckoned you in more. It felt too familiar. You felt like you had to know him, had to delve into his secrets and mind as he certainly had many
Sighing, you stood up from your seat and began to pack away your books, the rest of the class had already left as it was time for lunch, just leaving you and Slughorn in the class.
"It seems you have quite the eye for potions my dear" you heard his voice echo from the back of the room.
"I find potions interesting and useful, more so than some of the other subjects which is why I like to keep on top of work sir" you grabbed you bag and turned around to face him, seeing his stumpy figure stood on a small stool as he filled the cupboards with the jars that had been left out.
"I'm glad to hear that you enjoy my class! I've been wishing to ask you if you'd like to accompany myself and the rest of Slugclub tomorrow night for dinner, it's our first meeting of the year and I'd love for you to attend" he climbed down his stool and turned to you with a large smile on his face.
"Slugclub? I'm not too sure what that is professor?"
"Oh sorry my dear, it just feels like you've been in this school forever! Slugclub is my own personal club, I like to choose my most capable and hard-working students. Its just a little time for us to discuss certain matters, perhaps debate and get to know others more, it also gives me the pleasure in treating you and myself to a lovely evening too" he clapped his hands.
"that sounds great professor, I guess it also gives me the chance to meet new people too, other than just Ravenclaws" you smile and head towards the door.
"Ah yes! I'm sure it would be more than easy for you to make friends, you'll certainly find others who are on the same intellect as you my dear." He chuckled "Oh and before I forget, the evening is fairly formal so please do not turn up wearing some rugged robes, maybe a nice dress or skirt would be fitting" you smiled and nodded, wishing him a quick goodbye and a nice day.
It had taken you about fifteen minutes to get to the great half, the multiple twists and turns had you very lost momentarily that you had to trek back to potions and start the journey again. Nancy and Andrew sat towards the front of the table with a spare seat next Nancy which you figured they had saved for you.
"Bloody hell (y/n), we were waiting outside potions for a good ten minutes, what were you doing? Please don't tell me you're having a secret affair with Slughorn, he looks at you the way he looks at Riddle, its quite disturbing really" she rambled, causing Andrew to choke on his food and gag at the thought of you and Slughorn.
"Well yes actually, he's taking me out to dinner tomorrow. Told me to dress up fancy, maybe a nice dress or skirt, it would make it a lot more convenient for later" you winked.
