STORIES UNFOLDING

I was sitting on the couch with Ryan beside me and Jason sitting on the floor on the other side.

"Here," Ryan handed me a red shopping bag.

"I bought you something." He smiled.

"You didn't have to. I already have many things in my closet," I said briskly.

"Oh, come on, Kiera. Just take it!" he scoffed.

"Okay," I said shortly. I opened my bag and found a sea blue gown. It was plain but it was beautiful. I've never gotten a gift before from my foster parents.

"It's beautiful, Ryan," I said, my eyes clouded with tears of happiness. "Thank you so much" I grabbed him in my arms and gave him a tight hug. Okay, I think I'm having a great influence of people in this house. I've never hugged anyone before except my mom and I hate having so much contact with humans.

"You're welcome, sleeping beauty" Ryan chuckled and said.

"Stop calling me that!" I smacked his shoulder and pulled myself from that awkward hug.

Ryan laughed, "You know you're cute when—" Ryan was cut off by the red and blue flashing lights that erupted from outside the house.

"Here we go again" Ryan sighed, getting up from the couch, "Jason, go get Rose" he told Jason.

Jason nodded and quickly got up to call Rose. I sat still on the couch watching the lights flashing between the blinds of the window. I was no stranger when it came to law enforcement. At the Rockwell's, I've been through this situation many times. But why would the police be here? Leah did say that Rose doesn't have any criminal record. But what if she has? I looked up at the clock; it was 5:20 in the evening.

"That boy can't stay out of trouble for one day, can he?" I heard Rose say, appearing from the hall.

Someone knocked on the door and Ryan opened the door for Rose.

"Hey, Rose" the officer offered her a smile. He was tall and had grey hair.

"What did he do now, Steven?" she asked him with a disappointing look on her face.

"He started a fight near a club few blocks away and... broke his arm" the officer informed her.

Who's he? Who started a fight? Who broke his arm?

That's when I saw Hunter step up behind the officer, making him visible to my sight. His hair was messy and his grey shirt was all bloody. He was bleeding from the right corner of his forehead. His right hand was on his left shoulder while his left hand deadly hung from his shoulder.

"Thanks for bringing him," Rose told Steven, giving him a sad smile.

"No problem, Rose. He's got some anger issues, that's it," Steven said and walked away and then disappeared into his car.

Rose shut the door with a long sigh and then faced Hunter. "Why now?" she asked. I guess Hunter has gotten into fights before that's why Ryan said that no one gets punished in this house except Hunter. Hunter stood silent, still in that position, not moving a bit.

"I asked you something, Hunter" Rose shouted. I gulped. For the first time I've seen Rose angry.

"He likes messing with people for no reason" Ryan said, staring at Hunter. He immediately looked up at Ryan with a death look in his eyes.
