ECCENTRIC
I got ready to get down for the breakfast. I was least interested in going downstairs because I didn't want to face anyone, especially Rose after Ryan had told everything to her.
As I opened my room's door and got out, I saw him.
Hunter was descending from the stairs that led up to the fourth floor. He was sweating very hard. When he came to my level I thought he'd say something about our conversation last night and yell at me for not answering him but... to my surprise, he walked right past me and straight to his room. And he slammed shut the door.
What?
He just walked by without even glancing at me! Not just one time!
I hate to say but I was hurt by his reaction. He always looked at me when he passed by me, even with a disgusting look but at least he looked. But he didn't today.
Get a grip, Kiera! You shouldn't be feeling all this!
When I got downstairs, Rose and Ryan were talking to each other at the dining table. When Rose noticed me a huge smile appeared on her face. She went back into the kitchen and left Ryan alone with me.
"Good morning," he smiled at me.
"Morning," a forced a tight smile.
"Look, Kiera," Ryan held my hands with my knuckles. "Ryan—" I tried to resist but he didn't let go. "Please. Before you say anything just hear me out okay?"
"I'm sorry for what happened last night. I just—just lashed out after seeing you with him. I know the situation wasn't how I took it to be. I wanted to come after you when you ran outside but mom called me and said I have to come and pick her up so Hunter came after you."
"You were home when I came," I said.
"I was." Glad he didn't disagree. "When Hunter left Rose again ringed and said that she'll manage herself and I don't have to come. I was just going outside to find you when you arrived." Ryan explained.
Maybe he's right?
Maybe he's lying?
"Kiera..." Rose joined our conversation, "he's not lying. I did call him. I know what happened when I wasn't around and I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm thinking on shifting your room next to Ryan. But for now, please forgive him, honey," Rose was being too sweet.
"Okay," I agreed, "I forgive you," I said to Ryan. Quickly, Ryan pulled me into a tight hug. "Thank you so much," his chest vibrated against mine.
Suddenly I heard someone clearing his throat. I knew that voice.
"Rose, I need to talk to you," his heavy voice filled my ears. Slowly, Ryan let go of me and I turned around to see him. Ryan wrapped his arms around my waist and pressed my back to his front. But I didn't care about that because I was busy watching him. Hunter was standing inches away from me, dressed in a white shirt with its sleeves stretched up to his elbows, black slacks and his hair wet from shower.
"I'm all ears," Rose said behind me.
"Alone," he said.
"Say what you want, Hunter. No one is a stranger here," Rose appeared beside me and said in a rude tone.
"Fine," Hunter took a deep breath.
We all settled on couch in the TV area. I was seated between Rose and Ryan and Hunter was in front of us, just separated by the small table. "So," he started, "I had asked Ben to appeal in my favor in the Children Security Committee for that I'm eligible and I can be on myself now since I'm 18 and I'll be 19 next month, and that appeal has been passed. I've also told the committee what I'm planning to do after I get out of this foster house and don't worry I won't need your money for that. So," he took out a paper and placed it on the table, "you just need to sign these papers and afterwards I'll leave and you will not have to deal with my shit anymore."
He seriously wanted to leave?
"I think I've told you before, Hunter. You will stay here as long as I'll want," Rose stated. Hunter clenched his jaw, "Rose, but—"
"Didn't you hear her? I think we've talked about this earlier," Ryan cut off Hunter in between.
Hunter sucked in a deep breath. Clearly he was trying to control his anger. "Look, Rose, you said that yourself that you never wanted me. Then why are you trying to keep me here? At least give me one good reason to stay," he said.
"We're family," I blurted.
Shit.
He didn't even look at me when I said. "I'm leaving," he declared.
"You know why I don't want you out of here," Rose said. "Oh, for God's sake, I've told you thousand times that I won't tell anyone about that. It was in the past and I'm over it now. If I wanted to tell anyone, I would've done that years ago, but I didn't. And I won't in the future too," Hunter nearly shouted.
Wait. What were they talking about?
"Still, it's a no," Rose was stubborn.
"I'm leaving tomorrow whether you like it or not," with that Hunter stood up and took the papers with him.
"Hunter..." Rose stood with him. "You know what, Rose; I could never be the son you always wanted. I could never make you proud, never did what you wanted, and became the bad boy. But... you have Ryan; who always did what you wanted. So you should be happy with him. He has everything that any person would want."
Okay, I think there was somewhere double meaning hidden in it.
Rose didn't say anything after that and Hunter left us.
And as always, I was confused.
..........................................
At evening, I heard a knock on my door.
I opened the door to find an already smiling Ryan.
"Hey," he said and caught me off-guard when he suddenly pulled me into an awkward kiss. I didn't felt like kissing him so I pushed him away.
"What was that for?" I asked forcing a tight smile.
"Just to make sure that we're still together," he smiled at me and without waiting for my reply, he left.
What just happened?
I was about to shut my room's door and bury myself back into my bed, when I saw Hunter arriving from in the corridor.
Maybe I should talk to him? It's our last day.
"Hey," I said.
He didn't reply.
"Hey," I said a little louder.
He did stop in his way but didn't reply.
"At least you can say something," I said sweetly.
"Trust me, Kiera, you don't wanna hear what I have to say," and with that, he shut himself into his room.
What. The. Hell?
Great!
He just shut me out.
He has to be arrogant bastard, right!
Ughhhhhhh!
To hell with him.
It's fantastic that he's leaving. Finally, I'll get to be happy.
