Human Nature:
It's human nature
To look out for the things that hurt us.
Years of evolution
And natural instinct
Designed to protect.
But I knew damn well what I was doing
Letting your fingers burn away
At the loose fitting armour of my skin
If it's human nature
To run from things that hurt us
Then tell me why
I let you get so close.

Going up, coming down
There were moments of clarity in your eyes
Lost only to the haze
That became more dependable than me.
And the irony is
I only started to get stoned
After you left.
The difference is,
I don't lose myself to the haze.
But it seems it's all you've got
These days.
