High Enough:

I used to think

I wanted to burn out in a cloud of haze

Disconnected

Sinking into the craze

Avoiding everything that made me feel

To opt out for a trip of things that weren't real

A pill here, a puff there

A joint in the backyard

A tab on the couch

A drink in my hand

Things sticking to the roof of my mouth.

As if I was waiting for someone to pull me out

Maybe no one ever will

But I know now,

I control the level of substance paired

With my self doubt.

Lighter:

An age old trick

When the night air blows too hard,

Tuck your head into your shirt

To light your cigarette with real class.

But the silence under here

Is nicer than the noise out there.

They ask, "why are you at a party if you're sad?"

And you reply

"Because I just wanted to see how many lighters

would get left behind in the yard."
