Graduating Tears:
A sea of students turned adults
A sea of proud parents and finery
Happy smiles and proud cheers
Or so I heard.
Seated from the empty house
In an even emptier street.
I sit here, from my windowsill spot as
I watch the clouds roll over the sky
They tink their wine glasses
I wait until the melancholy passes.
They graduate one by one,
I wait for all my pieces to come undone.
I'll wait to stick them back together
But for now I'm alone
As they rejoice
I prepare for the unknown

Smoke Under The Clothes Line:
I wait in the night air
Legs tucked under one another on concrete.
The breeze lifts the tendrils of hair
I let hang down to meet
The smoke rising from the cigarette always
Lodged in my hand
A long drag
under the clothes line
As I watch the sky expand
The stars coming out to meet
The arrival of my desolation
Mourning everything that once was
