You never remembered what happened the night you got drunk and tried to smooch the face off of Steve. Though Steve beat himself up for everything that could have been, he knew it didn't matter. You were drunk and still hung up on Bucky, and today was no time to dwell on what happened three months ago.
"Happy birthday my sweet." Natasha hummed to Dorothy as she danced with her on her hip. Dorothy squealed and put her hand in her mouth.
"Feel old yet?" Steve whispered to you, causing you to sniff and turn to face him. He saw your red eyes and immediately grew concerned. "What's wrong? Are you hurt? Who hurt you? Are you I'll? What do you need?" You laughed and wrapped your arms around his waist, laying your head on his chest.
"I'm fine, Stevie. She's just growing up so quickly and...he's not here to see it." Steve grimaced as he wrapped his arms around you.
"He's not. But I am." He mumbled, stroking your back.
You looked up at him and smiled. "You are. And I couldn't be more thankful." Steve smiled down at you and squeezed you tighter.
Across the room, Nat and Sam smiled at the two of you. "It's so obvious they're in love." Sam scoffed, now holding the one year old on his hip.
"It is. But they'll see it soon." Nat replied smoothly, sipping her drink after the words echoed from her lips.
"So were meant to just sit by and witness all the almost kisses and cutesy cuddles?" He turned to her, disappointment on his face.
Natasha nurses her drink as a smirk grew on her face. She looked up at Sam with a devilish look. "I never said anything about not pushing them to see it." The smirk spread to Sam and he bounced Dorothy while looking over to the two of you, a coy look swallowing his features.
Everyone clapped as you and Dorothy blew out the candles on the cake. Her first birthday was a success, surrounded by those who loved her the most and toys that you didn't know where you were going to put.
"Obviously she'll like my present the most." Tony gloated as he took her from your arms, cuddling her in to him. "It has the most love." He smiled causing you and others to laugh.
"I'm pretty sure my present is better than a giant bunny rabbit she can't even play with." Wanda's strong accent intervened and made Tony raise an eyebrow.
"Now now. Im sure Dorothy loves all the presents she gotten today. Thank you so much, to everyone for being here. I didn't think we'd make it this far without.." you cleared your throat. "But all of you have made it possible. Dorothy and I love each and everyone of you guys. You're our family." The team smiled and cheered, some hugging you, some finding their way to the snack table and others resting their legs from standing for so long.
You couldn't have asked for a better first birthday for your daughter.
