Wanda set her mug down and smiled at you. "I feel like I haven't seen you in ages!" She grinned happily. You returned it before sipping at your coffee.
"I felt like that too. You're my best friend, we shouldn't leave it so long to just grab coffee." You mused and she agreed by nodding quickly.
"How's Steve?" She asked, quickly changing he subject.
You paused, unsure if you should tell her. You didn't even really know what you and Steve were. The last few days it's been kisses and cuddles, but not much more has happened.
"He's okay. Taking it easy after the mission." You paused again. She was your best friend. "Wanda, you can get inside people's heads right?" She gave you her 'obviously' expression.
"Did you ever look In Steve's?" You asked gingerly.
She smirked knowingly. "Maybe. Why are you asking?" She teased, sitting back confidently.
"Well...I just wanted to know." You shrugged. She squinted at you and sighed.
"What do you want to know?" She leaned forward again, as if it was a secret.
"His feelings towards me." You stated neutrally. You could see the excitement in her eyes.
"That's simple. He loves you." You sighed in relief. "Now you tell me why you're asking." You grinned and looked down at your lap.
"We, well when he came home we kissed and told each other how we felt. And the past few days we've kissed some more..." You could feel your cheeks heating up at the thought of his lips.
"And you're only telling me now!" She shrieked, a wide smile on her face. "I knew you liked each other." She shook her head.
"Yeah. Guess you don't need to look in peoples heads when they tell you huh?" You giggled.
"Oh I never looked in his head." She replied smugly as she sipped her drink again. You pushed the door open and stepped inside, sliding your shoes off in the process. "Steve?" You called out.
"In the kitchen." He yelled back. You could hear Dorothy babbling through the walls.
You walked in and was instantly greeted by the smell of something cooking.
You walked up behind Steve (after kissing Dorothy's head, who was happily colouring at the table) and wrapped your arms around his waist. "Something smells good." You said, your voice muffled by his back.
"I'm making homemade pizza." He said proudly.
"Oh that smells good too." You laughed, walking round so you stood by his side. He smiled down at you and placed a peck on your lips. "I could get used to you cooking more often. Especially if you're wearing this." You tugged on the apron he was wearing.
"You like it?" You nodded. He smirked and tucked you under his arm.
It went quiet for a while, the occasional sound of the food, or Dorothy singing.
"She starts nursery tomorrow." You brought up, almost saddened at the fact.
"She'll be okay. She'll love it." Steve reassured you, looking over his shoulder at the little girl.
"I guess." You huffed, grabbing the plates at Steve's request."I don't want to leave mommy." Dorothy cried quietly to Steve.
"She'll be there to pick you up later on. It'll be fun Dot." She shook her head at Steve's words and he sighed through his nose.
"Hey. You know how you said the other day how you want to be brave like uncle Steve?" Dorothy nodded. "Well think of this like a mission that you've got to be brave for, and the goal is to make friends. And when the missions over, mommy and I will be there waiting for our brave little girl." You listened intently by the door and felt your heart melt.
"Promise?" She held her pinky out.
Steve looped his with hers. "Promise." He kissed her head and called for you. As you were leaving, he passed her her lunch. "Have a good day, sweetie!" He called, smiling at you afterwards. When you returned, you closer the door behind you quietly, sniffling with red eyes.
Steve popped his head out into the hallway and smiled at you, face dropping when he saw the remainders of tears on your face.
He stopped in front of you slowly and held your face in his hands. "She's growing up too quickly." You whispered, looking up to try and stop more tears.
"I know." He smiled warmly, rubbing your cheeks with his thumbs.
"She didn't even cry. You've made her so strong that she doesn't even need me anymore." You croaked.
"What? Y/N that's crazy. First of all, you made her strong. She gets all that strength and independence from you. Second of all, she's still young and she'll always need her mother."
You nodded and sniffed again, leaning against Steve as he kissed your head.
"Want to grab some lunch later?" You offered, looking up at him. He nodded and smiled."It's been ages since we've been here." You pointed out as you looked around.
Steve joined you in taking in your surroundings. "Yeah. Last time we came to this diner, you were three months pregnant." He grinned fondly, remembering that night.
Your food arrived fairly quickly and you both dug in quickly. You watched as Steve dunked a chip in his milkshake and smirked at him. He rolled his eyes and threw a chip at you gently before chuckling.
"I hate to admit it but it's kind of nice being just us again." Steve nodded along before biting in to his burger.
"This is like an unofficial first date." He pointed out. You stopped eating and licked your lips of the food.
"I guess. Yeah." You nodded before eating again.
He held his milkshake up and motioned for you to do the same. "Happy first date." He grinned stupidly.
You returned the smile and held up your milkshake. "Happy first date."
