You were in your own private room in the best hospital as soon as possible, mainly thanks to Tony, his authority and fast cars.
Steve stood next to you whilst Tony and Bruce waited anxiously outside. You would've liked both Pepper and Steve with you at this point in time but she was half way around the world flying back to you at this moment in time.
You held Steve's hand with an iron grip, but of course he was unfazed. His focus was on you being okay and the baby being born.
"Honestly, this was not how I pictured my Wednesday evening." He smiled down at you. You tried to return it but you were in too much pain.
"Is this weird for you? You don't strike me as the guy to be present at your best friends girlfriends labour." You commented weakly. Steve smiled even more and shrugged.
"Believe it or not, I care about you. The only thing that matters is you and that baby. Just promise me you won't kill me when it's coming out." His smile turned slightly in to a smirk.
"Can't promise anything."

"Okay Miss Y/L/N, push." The doctor ordered. You let out a blood curdling scream as you did exactly what she said for what felt like the hundredth time. Your hand turned white in Steve's as he spoke words of encouragement to you.
You could tell he was scared. He was worried and he didn't really know what to do. But he'd be dammed if he wasn't going to be there for you.
"You're incredible." He whispered as you flew back, taking a break from the hard work. "Seriously, Tony's going to have to change the status of strongest avenger." You would've laughed if it weren't for the circumstances.
"Push!" You screamed again, praying for the relief that was soon to come.
Beads of sweat were dripping from everywhere and Steve tried to dab it away the best he could with his free hand.
"Steve!" You cried. He stopped and looked at you. "That's not comforting." He immediately swatted the towel down and thought to the thing you did find comforting.
He sighed. This was something he only did when you were incredibly upset and he definitely wouldn't live this down, but he had to. You were suffering.
"I've got sunshine, on a cloudy day." Steve's sudden outburst of off key singing made some of the nurses stop what they were doing and stare at him. He didn't care.
"When it's cold outside, I've got the month of may." You pushed again but when you had stopped you smiled lazily and looked at him. "I guess you say, what can make me feel this way? My girl." You let out a breathy laugh and kissed his hand that was laced with yours. He copied your action before continuing. "Talking bout my girl. My girl." He had even gone up and octave on the last line just to see you smile more.
Nothing looked more beautiful than you did, even in the state you were in.
"One more push!" You heaved and gritted your teeth, Steve's other hand reaching round your back and lacing with your other hand for extra support.
And suddenly it was all over. It was like it had never happened as your body fell limp against Steve's chest. He wrapped his arms around you as you breathed heavily and listened to the echo of the babies cries.
A warmth was placed on your chest and you opened your eyes to see the baby, your baby, lying against you. Blood and goo was still attached to it, but you cooed none the less. This was your child. The human you had carried on you for ten months and here it was, whaling on your bare chest.
They took your baby away to clean and dress it and you returned your hold on Steve. "Congratulations Miss Y/L/N. You have a beautiful baby girl." Your hand flew to your mouth as tears threatened to spill again.
"A girl?" You squeaked. She nodded and took her from the nurses hold, handing her gently over to you.
She had stopped crying now and lay in your arms with her eyes closed. You completely melted as soon as you saw her. You bought your right hand up to stroke her face, only for her to grab it.
"I love you so much." You cried quietly as Steve rubbed your back. "Your daddy couldn't be here but you have so many people who are going to love you as much as he would have. And I promise you'll live a better life than I and he did because I'll never let anything bad happen to you." You sobbed. Steve had to hold back a few tears himself at your vow to your baby. It was astonishing how she had just been born and you were already devoted to her.
"She's beautiful." He muttered, softly cupping her head with his enormous hand. You peered up at Steve. "Just like her mommy." He gleamed at you before sitting down on the bed so he could fully look at your baby. "I'll protect you and your mommy, not that she'll need it." You giggled and placed your hand on Steve's shoulder. He glanced at you.
"Thank you. For everything." Steve only smiled and leaned over, gently kissing your forehead. He leant back and looked at your daughter, slowly kissing hers as well.
The nurse re-entered and smiled. "I see mommy and daddy are happy." Yours and Steve's head both shot up.
"Oh he's no-"
"We're not-" You both tried to explain you weren't together and the nurse laughed.
"Sorry. I was mistaken, you just seemed so in love." She smirked and left, leaving both you and Steve feeling confused, but none the less, happy.
