34.| That Awkward Air

"You took the lead role! You! Took the role I wanted most!!"

"What?..."

What just processed through my head was a blur. Nothing added up, nothing made sense. Nothing at all.

"What do you mean I took the role?! I didn't even audition! So what nonsense are you even saying!!"

LouLou scoffed loudly. "Really? Then why is the role already given to you? It's even on the board." Shoving through the crowd to go see the what's on the board.

The list continues a bit for the supporting roles... but mine was right there. At the top.

My jaw dropped slightly.

"L-LouLou! I will go talk to our director! Please! This is all a misunderstanding!"

LouLou crosses her arms and pursed her lips at me. "Yuejia... you're my best friend. How could you do this to me?" With that, she stomped away while everyone around me shook their heads and made "tch" or "tsk" sounds.

I didn't feel humiliated, I felt angry and confused. Especially since I specifically told LouLou and the boys that I wasn't going to audition. Yet somehow, somehow. I'm on the list. As the main character for god sakes!

"Wow... what a scene."

I rolled my eyes harshly before facing the person who just spoke.

"Shut up, Fan ChengCheng. Nobody asked." I barked. He threw his hands in the air in defence.

"Jeez. Calm down."

"How can I? My best friend is mad and just understood me! So no. I will not calm down. Oh! And how the hell are you on that list anyways? I didn't see you at the audition line."

ChengCheng gives me a half smirk. "Well, that's because I auditioned yesterday, duh."

I didn't say anything else but head to class... with him. We were both late, of course, from the all yelling and semi-fighting thing. So the both of us had to stand outside the classroom and lean against the wall in a chair sitting position. If you don't know what that is, just go against a wall, slide down until it feels like your sitting and be in that position for the whole class.

Yeah, sucks. Doesn't it?

"Freaking hell..." I cursed under my breath. The amount of pain I was in was so unbearable. My knees were shaking and aching.

"Just stand, Yuejia." He says. But I acted like I didn't hear him. "Stand up straight."

"No."

"Why? You're clearly in pain."

"I can handle it," I said back before taking in deep breaths.

After about 10 minutes later, our teacher finally came out and talked to us. She told us that she'll let us off the hook this time since she knows our work ethics are very good. But she doesn't want it to happen a second time.

I walked a to the drama room to talk to our director. I knocked twice on the door.

"Come in."

"Mr. Lei."

"Zhen Yuejia. What brings you to my drama room?" He asks as he places down a stack of papers, which I assumed were the scripts.

"I was wondering why I was placed as Chen XiaoXi... when I didn't even audition."

"Easy. You were fit for the part." He answered back. I shook my head.

"No... I don't want the part."

"It's too late now. It's been finalized. All the students have been chosen."

I had no other choice but to leave.

Jiang happened to be walking the same way as me she ran up behind me.

"Yuejia!"

"Jiang-ah..." I whined sadly. She wrapped an arm around my shoulders and hugged me tightly.

"I heard what happened. Did you really do that?"

"I would never. LouLou is like our biggest sister... I would never do that to her. Plus you know me. I'm not into theatre. So why would I audition." I explained through tears.

"Yah. Stop crying. We'll figure something out. For now... let's head home."

All the way home. I was whining and crying about my legs aching from pain. Jiang scolded me for not standing up when the teacher wasn't there. But I told her that I could handle it at the time. Course... turns out I couldn't anymore.

When we got to inside our house, we saw LouLou and Yorong grabbing something.

"LouLou. What are you doing?"

LouLou and I both made eye contact before she looked away and answered Jiang.

"Sorry. But I forgot my sweater over here. So I came to get it. We'll get going." 

"LouLou," I called her. She stopped and stood there without saying anything. 

I have actually forgotten what I wanted to say... So then there was this awkward feeling in the air, atmosphere. 

"Yuejia. Say something." Yorong half whispered, snapping me out of my thoughts. 

"LouLou... I-I'm sorry about today.. um. I'll try to fix everything." 

LouLou didn't say anything but quickly ran out of the house. Yorong looked at me with warm eyes. "I trust and believe you. But you better fix everything." After she said that, Yorong followed LouLou of the door. Leaving only me and Jiang left.

"Yorong is right. You need to fix this. Fast."

"I know... but I don't know how."
