Chapter 59- Saint Mary Hospital

(Quilla's P.O.V.)

We got past the infected with no problem.

As we continued however, things got a little messy.

We had to hop cars to continue.

That would have been easy, but, there was rushing water right beneath us.

Right as all three of us made it on what looked like a study bus, it broke loose and we darted across it while it was turning.

Joel and I made it, but Ellie got caught in the wave.

I went after her, not thanking, and we both were caught in the wave.

( Joel's P.O.V.)

I got ahold of Quill and Ellie and made it to the other side of the train tunnel.

I did CPR on Quill and got her breathing again, and started doing it on Ellie when soldiers showed up.

They nocked Quill out, then me.

I woke up on a hospital bed.

" Welcome to the Fireflies," Marlene said as my eyes darted toward her. " Sorry about the head trauma, they didn't know who you were."

" Where's Ellie and Quill?" I asked. " Are they alright?"

" Quill is in the next room."

" Where's Ellie?"  

" She is being prepped for surgery." 

" Don't lay a hand on her!" I yelled.

" Joel," Marlene started. " This is our chance to make things right. To cure all of this."

" You lay a hand on either one of my girls I will-"

I was cut off by a soldier kicking me in the back of the left knee.

" I get it," Marlene told me. " But whatever you think your going through right now, is nothing compared to what I have been through. I knew her since she was born. I promised her mother I-"

" Look," I wheezed. " I don't care about your bullshit story. If you let this happen, I lose everything I fight for. Isn't there another way?"

" This isn't about us. Or even them."

" What difference is this vaccine going to make?" I asked her. " It's a parasite, not a regular infection The world is already gone."

" March him out of here," Marlene told the soldier. " He tries anything, shoot him. Don't waste this gift, Joel."

She walked out and left me with her soldier.
