I followed Jay to god-knows-where. We walked through many hallways and he talked to a couple of guards before we stood infront of the team's room.
"Ready to see your groom?" He wiggled his eyebrows.
I groaned and shoved him aside. "I won't ever talk to you if you say that again."
"Easy, there." He pushed the door and got inside. The room had a couple of sofas and a door that had a sign saying Locker Room. A couple of players were in the room and I just smiled at them uneasily.
Matt came rushing out of the locker room and stopped in his tracks when he saw Jay and I.
"Hey there. How'd you get here?" He said, a wide grin on his face.
"It just needs a good face." Jay shrugged and I chuckled.
"Where's Chaz?"
"Inside."
"I'll go see him. You can be here if you want." Jay turned to me.
"Yeah I'm okay." I smiled.
He gave me a reassuring nod and headed to the locker room.
"Good game." I said.
"Yeah. We're kicking their asses."
"Thanks to Chaz." I laughed and rolled my eyes. "Honestly though, how come he's so good?"
Matt looked annoyed already. The excitement in his eyes was replaced with obvious envy.
"Don't get me wrong Matt. You did amazing. It's just that I like football myself- I'm just asking-" I said. I didn't mean to offend him.
"You think Chaz is the best in the world?" He guffawed.
"No? What? I just asked how he's good- I mean I want tips myself." I murmured.
"He used football to escape his ugly past and death of his brother." He blurted out angrily. Loud enough for it to eco in the room.
My eyes widened in shock. I had no idea. Chaz came in the moment Matt said it. His blue eyes turned from excited and proud to dull and furious. The room suddenly fell silent. All the laughs and mini-plans and discussions stopped.
Chaz quickly walked towards Matt and I. I've never seen him any angrier. His hands were in fists and I could see a vein pop in his neck. His eyes looked red and his eyebrows were knitted together.
"What the fuck did you just say?" He asked in a daring, warning low tone to Matt. I could see Matt swallow down his nervousness.
"I- I didn't mean-"
That only poured fuel to the fire burning in Chaz's chest. His fists were now tightly clenched.
"I didn't mean to." Matt muttered.
Chaz lost his cool and threw his fist to Matt's jaw and Matt retreated, falling to the ground. Jay ran from behind, and the team followed and pulled Chaz away.
"Y'all know I could fuck you all up now, right?" Chaz muttered and pulled away violently from them.
"Chaz. Chaz. Don't get distracted. These are the finals. You can't ruin this. Fight Matt later.. just.. not in here." Jay said, carefully choosing his words as he shook Chaz's shoulders mildly.
Chaz's cold eyes then fell on mine. "I'd appreciate it if you don't ask questions about me." He said harshly.
He then groaned like a wild animal and exit the room, slamming the door behind him. Jay then got closer to Matt.
