The rest of the weekend went by without a hitch. I kept myself locked in my house and relaxed as I finished up the last bit of my classwork for Aoba Joshai high. My final two weeks was finished and now I was moving on to bigger things, and hopefully that meant better was well.
Then came Monday at Shiritorizawa when school finally began. The stares felt different. Probably because I was surrounded by people who I did not know and who were as leery of me as I was of them. I did my best to smile and introduce myself but you know how it is, it requires a lot of energy.
The only friend I seemed to have off the bat was Suzuki Chiya. That girl was a saint. She took me under her wing and tried to introduce me to as many people as she could.
Surprisingly Ushijima Walatoshi was helpful as well. I seemed to kept running into him in the hallway and every time he always checked in to make sure I was alright, telling me to ask him if I had any questions about anything.
Then the school day finished. Practice went smoothly as we prepared for our game the next day.
When practice was complete I made my way to the wight room. I went through my normal routine, music blasting as I blocked out the things that my mind really wanted to think about.
The door to the gym opened and I turned to see Chiya, her school bag thrown over her shoulder. Her bright red hair was thrown into a tight bun atop her head, her golden eyes were sparkling as she entered. She smiled mischievously at me.
"Hey there Miyumi!" She cheered as she set her bag down onto the floor next to the door.
"Hey Chiya." I said with a huff as I lowered myself down to the floor, stretching my fingers and bending them, trying to make them less stiff.
"I have a surprise for you." She said with a big grin on her face as she moved back towards the closed door and gripped the handle. "I ran into a certain someone in the hallway." she said with a smirk.
'Please do not be Oikawa.'
She quickly threw the door open and Junko looked inside, confused and looked like she was lost. "Hi there. I thought I would come and meet up with you and head home with you." I let out a small laugh as I headed towards my bag and picked up a small towel which I used to dry my slightly sweaty palms.
"Sounds like a plan to me. And i assume that the two of you have already been acquainted."
Junko nodded. "Suzuki-san is very nice. She scared me a little when she ran into me in the hallway."
"Hey, I had to make sure that you weren't here to steal school secrets." Chiya laughed and she nudged my childhood friend. Junko laughed, actually looking somewhat comfortable with the girl. "And I told you, Chiya please! A friend of Miyumi's is a friend of mine."
I shook my head as I grabbed my towel from my bag, wiping the sweat from my neck.
"This school is huge you know. I never would have found where I was going if it wasn't for you."
Chiya made a brushing off motion with her hand while trying not to look too flattered. "Oh stop it."
"Chiya!" An almost monotonous voice called out. Akane poked her head into the weight room and shook her head. "Of course I find you meddling."
"I was not meddling! I was helping."
"Actually I was helping, you were interrogating." She girl said, her expression not even changing as she crossed her arms over her chest. Chiya groaned, dramatically throwing her head back as she looked to Junko.
Chiya's expression grew dark and she gestured between her golden eyes and Junko's green ones. "I'll be watching you." She whispered. The facade quickly broke and she let out a hearty laugh, causing Junko to show a small and somewhat uncomfortable looking smile.
"Don't stay too much longer. You don't want to run into the school ghost." Chiya wriggled her fingers as she opened the doors and she backed out of the door. Akane rolled her eyes at the girl, doing nothing to stop her as Chiya let the door slam shut.
I smiled and shook my head as I bent down, throwing my towel back into my bag and packing up my things into my gym bag. Then i stood up and slung the bag over my shoulder.
"Please tell me that there isn't really a ghost."Junko pleaded, looking around frantically.
"There is no ghost, don't worry." I patted her on the shoulder. She nodded, trying to seem composed.
"Why did you come all this way anyway?" I shook my head. "Not that I don't want to see you or anything, it's just a long way." I rushed to add in.
"I wanted a bit of a walk." She said with a small shrug.
"Home stuff?" I asked.
Junko nodded. "Yeah, tell me about it." She whispered. "Nothing unusual just stressful ya know?" I nodded.
Junko turned and opened the door. Chiya jumped from behind it, screaming 'Boo', causing Junko to scream and fall to the floor.
Chiya and I both let out loud laughs as we looked down at Junko. Akane rolled her eyes at us but a small smirk was still on her lips. I made my way past the three and into the locker room as I continued to laugh. I took a deep breath, calmed myself and then opened my locker.
I heard Junko yelling that that the scare was uncalled for and let out a small laugh.
I put everything I didn't need away and locked my locker before heading back to the weight room. I learned against the doorframe of the room and watched as Junko stood there animatedly waving her arms around as she explained how the scare could have killed her.
"You ready to go Ms.Talkative?" Junko turned, glaring in my direction.
"You didn't almost just die!" I rolled my eyes at her. "Don't you roll your eyes at me!"
"Come on slow poke! Chiya, Akane you coming with?"
"I'll walk out with you and we can see if I'll walk home with you." Chiya said with a smile. "I don't want to end up walking in the complete opposite direction of home."
"Same for me too. Chiya and I live in the same direction and I need to prevent this one from taking a random detour."
"I do not take random detours!" Chiya yelled back to Akane, who only raised an eyebrow at her.
"Oh really? Wanna tell me about your two hour disappearance after practice the other day?" The girl immediately fell silent. "And that is what I thought." Akane said proud of herself as Chiya mumbled something incoherently under her breath.
"Sounds rational. Let's go." We stopped at my locker on the way out and grabbed my school supplies. Then we exited the building. When we exited the school gates Akane stopped, motioning in the opposite direction that we were going to go in.
"Guess we're going in opposite directions."
Chiya smiled sadly. "Seems so." She smiled nonetheless, looking like she'd rather take the long way home than go and do homework. "I would love to come with you but it seems that my walk would be tripled."
"Then I'll see you tomorrow during class."
"See you tomorrow!" Chiya said enthusiastically as she could.
"Safe trip home." Akane said with a nod.
"You too!" They both waved as we turned and walked in our opposing directions.
Considering it had been a quiet first day because at Shiritorizawa everyone was known for something so no one really seemed to mind who you were or what you did. It was nice in a way. But something in the back of my brain was nagging me. And I knew exactly what it was. I pushed it down, ignored it and continued on with my new life.
